According to E.O Wilson, if all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos. This in itself is a warning for humankind to be perspicacious of environment and surroundings. Anything in excess is a sign of peril so it is important to practice balance. We have been negating our ecology since forever and it has become a dire need to practice control and make efforts towards reaching the goal.
Nature is almighty and we are ephemeral so the choice is ours whether to live peacefully and considerably or choose constant destruction and devastation.
Bio-Diversity is defined as an environment indicated by numbers of different species of plants and animals. There is no mention of human beings which should be a hint enough for us to understand where we stand in comparison to plants and animals. We need to understand that it is not human versus environment, it is human and environment. It is us versus the problem. Coming to reverse bio-diversity, the question arises about its meaning and origin. It is quite a new term coined after recent events that shook us all and made reverse biodiversity a much-needed action. For example, bushfires in Brazil, locusts’ infestations in East Africa and global disease pandemic are what we have with us in our plates.
Reverse bio-diversity is nothing but to leave nature to itself so it can rejuvenate herself. Not spoiling water with pollutants, land by pesticides and preserve for better energy.
Quoting the verse by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says, when you rejoice in the beauty, the entire creation rejoices with you. The very purpose of so much variety in creation is to somehow bring you back to yourself; that you are beautiful.
But till when? The pace at which we are growing by keeping nature at stake is pretty dangerous. We need to save it for our posterity and let them be thankful and cherished too.
Starting with a little but impactful story as to why most of us still use plastic even after the mandate of reusable bags. As Gaur Gopal Das shared -We choose to be part of the blame game rather than providing a solution. Here is a story of an elderly woman who was paying bills at cash counter when the young cashier in a slightly headed way suggested to her that she should bring her paper bag. Plastic bags are not good for the environment. The elderly lady apologetically said that we did not have the green thing back in my day. The cashier snapped ‘That’s exactly the problem. Your generation was careless’. You did not bother to save the environment for posterity. To which she said Yes because we returned soda bottles to store or sent them to their plant so they can be sterilized to be uses over and over again. They were the one's recycling. They refilled pen with ink and replaced razor blades. They dried clothes on a line and did not use the washing machine. They believed in reusing and not throwing. But these things are difficult to understand by the younger generation as they have used and throw products readily available. To go back in greener times, we need to establish our relationship with nature and work towards it. We need to understand each other’s needs and requirements and put in maximum efforts to drive the best results. If this sounds difficult then resort to creating situations like 30 years from now our kids are reading about greenery in history books they will carry the weight of plastic-wrapped earth on their shoulders. To do even minimal actions, they will have to put in extra effort and resources. But to our rescue, we have some great human beings such as Jadav Payeng who planted forests by themselves and took the green initiative going. We have been creating havoc on mother earth since forever by driving towards endless population leading to massive swathes of the pristine forest through clear-cutting, burning and flooding agriculture and industry. This has bought our world on a pause. We are stuck with beautiful clear skies with no plane contrails. It has bought all of us again together by sharing our deeds in bits.
International efforts to develop treatments and vaccines have overcome national jealousy, distrust and enmity. Provinces are uniting to support each other, and the federal government, cities and towns are rediscovering the power of compassion and working together.
Reverse Biodiversity loss has become the need of the hour as we have already seen the worst consequences. Like the phrase says “Best is yet to come”. We surely don’t want nature to reverse it for us and make it “Worst is yet to come”. Prevention is better than cure so we better reverse bio-diversity loss before nature does it for us. I appreciate small measures that have been taken to reduce the effects of our toxins on nature like following odd-even rule for vehicles on streets. Moving more towards sustainable start-ups and practicing showing gratitude to planet earth. There can be lots of creative and helpful ways to reverse biodiversity loss by hibernating for 2 weeks twice a year. That time can be utilized in introspection and diving in spirituality. Many of us have come up with mind-blowing and stressbuster talents in lockdown during COVID-19 crises which are very therapeutic and vital for an individual. According to my the reason why we exploit nature and leave it to its poor condition is that we have always taken it for granted and never saw it another species of living creatures. The day we will bring in behavioral changes and attitudes towards them, we can again see it in a full circle. Let us imagine a picture of beautiful forests with no interruptions of human beings. Wildlife enjoying in the forest by leaping and jumping on each-other, hunting and gather fruits, bring the whole ecology to a balance. How peaceful and achievable it looks. Then why not gear up and work for it and leave no stones unturned.
