There is no doubt that the increasing population of people is one of the major causes of environmental pollution. Countries with organised waste management system have also seen the increasing population as a big threat to the system as this will result to pressure on the waste management facilities and as they would be eventually insufficient, people would start to dispose wastes at any seemingly available place. It is high time environmental literacy be on the top gear globally. Through conscious effort by the government, relevant agencies and organizations, people should be well informed about the impending danger of waste mismanagement and environmental pollution. It is still sad to know that despite the rising campaign for environmental conservation, a good proportion of people are not environmental literate- they do not know their responsibility to ensuring a cleaner environment and the danger of polluting their immediate environment. Many still involve in open deification, uncontrolled channelling of wastes to water bodies, indiscriminate disposal of wastes etc. However, some countries such as Switzerland, UK, Sweden are environmentally develope, but this is far too insignificant when compared to the number of countries (about 200) in the world. Adequate understanding of this therefore underscores the need for environmental education of the general public. To strengthen the impart of environmental campaigns in our regions, it is recommended that regional government should include environmental education to the school curriculum from the "primary school" level to "higher institution" so that as the population increases, the new generatio who will pass through this development would have been environmental literate. Also, public education should be conucted using methods such as TV shows, National events, Public annoucements in other to educate the general public. Applying these recommendations will definitely improve the environmental status of our regions. |

Hey there Israel!
I hope you are well! I concur with your statement that there is a small number of people who are environmentally literate and a huge, vast population that is unaware of Environmental literacy. it is high time the government involved themselves in educating the Citizens within their respective countries in order to get a defiant change within our societies. Only then will we start seeing gradual change amongst us.
Thank you for this thought provoking report,
Yours sincerely,
Rosa

Hi Israel,
Thank you for pointing out this important topic to us! I totally believe that environment education is needed and cannot be neglected as we will be facing with even more severe environmental changes. We should educate the young since they are young. I hope there will be more schools that teach the environment in the near future.

Hello Israel
Thank you for sharing your report on environmental education. I concur with you that given the severity of waste management problems, the value environmental education has been underestimated. I hope one day, environmental education would be included in school curriculum.
