Air pollution can be defined as an alteration of air quality that can be characterized by measurements of chemical, biological or physical pollutants in the air. Therefore, air pollution means the undesirable presence of impurities or the abnormal rise in the proportion of some constituents of the atmosphere. Air pollution is caused by the presence in the atmosphere of toxic substances, mainly produced by human activities, even though sometimes it can result from natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions, dust storms and wildfires, also depleting the air quality. There are ways to prevent, control and eventually reduce air pollution

1.            Renewable fuel and clean energy production

The most basic solution for air pollution is to move away from fossil fuels, replacing them with alternative energies like solar, wind and geothermal.

2.            Energy conservation and efficiency

Producing clean energy is crucial. But equally important is to reduce our consumption of energy by adopting responsible habits and using more efficient devices.

3.            Eco-friendly transportation

Shifting to electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles, and promoting shared mobility (i.e. carpooling, and public transports) could reduce air pollution.

4.            Green building

From planning to demolition, green building aims to create environmentally responsible and resource-efficient structures to reduce their carbon footprint.

In addition, monitoring air pollution levels has become very important to detect pollution peaks, better control air pollution and eventually improve air quality.

We all know what air pollution means. It means presence of particulate matters and other gases which naturally wouldn't be present in the air. Undoubtedly it is harmful for all things; even nonliving as it damages and destructs their normal natural cycle. We've all faced air pollution and experienced it first hand, whether it be on the streets while going out for a quick snack or on the way back to work. We all have moments when we felt suffocated and our lungs crave for a breath of fresh air. Although rarely felt in village areas, townspeople can relate to those moments. Those little moments are going to be the future of whole humanity if we don't act now. Not next month, not next week, NOW!
Tackling air pollution will be much challenging now than it was a century ago. Human population has increased so much and strolling right beside our population is pollution. Even though it's hard it isn't impossible YET. To stop air pollution from being deadlier and to reduce it participation of whole humanity is necessary and it is a must to act locally socially and world widely.

Individually:
>Being efficient with everyday use things like papers, electricity, LPGs, using refrigerators etc.

>Using fewer plastic things. Since plastics take hundreds of years to decompose one of the easier methods of getting rid of them is burning them; which inherently pollutes the air.

Socially:
>Well management of wastes and drainage is a must for a clean environment and fresh air. Many people only consider dirt and smoke to be air pollutants but foul smell, germs/viruses are also major contributors to air pollution.

>Planting as well as protecting the trees is a long-lasting way of controlling air pollution. There's a culture of sowing for showing among us and not actually looking after the trees we sow. We shouldn't plant haphazardly either, sustainability is key in protecting our future.

>Construction works of buildings, roads and any other architectural projects should be carried out carefully. Those construction sites usually have high concentration particulates of silica, asbestos, synthetic vitreous fibers and diesel. Which are prime candidates for cancer and other respiratory diseases.

>Pesticides, insecticides and other chemicals released in the atmosphere severely affect degrade the air quality. Considering how much pesticides are being used nowadays for commercial farming, at least controlling their use would be huge a huge breath of relief, literally.

Government:
>The main culprit of polluting air are automobiles. Government should enforce an "efficient vehicle regulation" in which vehicles must exhaust CO below the allowed allocated limit. The old non efficient vehicles should be scrapped and recycled.

>Use of fossil fuels should also be monitored and reduced as much as possible. Government should invest more in alternative renewable energy sources like hydroelectricity, solar energy, wind energy etc.

>With the development in electricity production, emphasis on developing cheaper electric vehicles should be given. With this rate of use of fossil fuel if there is a future left for us, it'll definitely be electric.

>Industries should also be made eco-friendlier by conducting regular energy audits, reducing fossil fuel use by making the plants electric, and reusing and recycling as much as possible. The gaseous wastes should also be properly neutralized and disposed safely in a non-harming way.

>Conducting surveys all over the country and finding out the major sources of air pollution in a particular area. Necessary actions should be taken after identifying the flaw and the threat of pollution should be swiftly removed.

>Plantation must be encouraged in major cities and people must be made aware of dangerous air pollutants like PM2.5 and PM10.

Globally:
>Tackling the problem of global warming should be on everyone's mind as it also gives birth to decrease in concentration of oxygen around the globe. Phytoplankton¡¯s, world's largest producers of oxygen, are decreasing in the oceans simply not being able to withstand the rise in temperature.

>Global pressure should be given to those countries contributing the highest amount to air pollution. Countries like China, India, USA have one of the highest pollutions in total and countries like Kuwait and Qatar have highest per capita pollution. They should be pressured to take action immediately in controlling those sky-high pollution rates.

Let¡¯s make our earth lively again, rather than following the same worn out path of easy way out and hoping our future generation can somehow cope with soon to be a martian atmosphere if things continue to go south.

With the advancement of modern technology and rise in the number of automobiles, factories, industries and excessive burning of fossil fuels, the quality of air that we are breathing is undergoing the process of deterioration. Almost as per the report of World Health Organization, 9 out of 10 people worldwide are exposed to the level of air pollution. Almost 6 million people dies every year due to the air pollution and spread of many airborne diseases are the reward of polluted air. So, we global citizens have to play a keen and active role promptly for the reducing the air pollution. There are still more effects of air pollution. Some of the ideas that can be used for the mitigation of air pollutions are:
• Everyone should make a habit of proper disposal of wastes, trashes, and leaves.

• Instead of burying those plastics we can think wisely for their recycle, reduction, reuse, about 29% of global air pollution can be reduced if plastic isn¡¯t burned.

• Single tree can produce nearly 260 pounds of oxygen each year, so effort should be given for plantation I.e. afforestation of trees as well some air purifier as indoor plants.

• Management practices for dust settling and using of ecofriendly means of transportation.

• less dependence on fossils fuel alternatively solar energy, wind energy can be used.

• As LPG produces 33% less carbon dioxide compared to petrol, Diesel and firewood. So, substitution of fire hood to LPG and stoves.

• Use of efficient air pollution fewer electric appliances instead.

• Effective saving of energy.
