Technology generated and implemented for increasing Agricultural productivity during past three decades resulted in depletion of natural resource base besides creating several environmental and ecological problems. In contrast the demand scenario features a growth rare in food requirements to meet the ever-increasing demand of the growing population. This improvement in food grain production has to be achieved while dealing with the factors affecting the ecological balance and sustainability of Agricultural resources. Major factors affecting the ecological balance and sustainability of agricultural resources are: a) Land/soil related problems 1. Soil degradatiom 2. Deforestation 3. Accelerated soil erosion 4. Siltation of reserves 5. Wind erosion b) Irrigation related problems 1. Rise in groundwater table & water logging 2. Soil salinization & alkalization 3. Over- exploitation of groundwater c) Indiscriminate use of agro-chemicals 1. Fertilizer pollution 2. Pesticide pollution d) Environmental pollution 1. Greenhouse effect 2. Depletion emissions 3. Methane emission 4. Eutrophication e)Erosion of genetic biodiversity |

While development of technology can be a key to stop deterioration of soils in the long run, it's undeniable that it has been the cause of it. Major threats of biodiversity and agriculture you brought up must be solved for sustainable development. Thanks for sharing this report! Adding possible measures that can be taken to deal with these problems will make your report even better :)

Hey there Kushal,
It has been coming more evident in recent years of the concern behind our food security with regards to keeping a sustainable balance with all other factors. I agree with you that we need to sensitise ourselves with the factors that has been a stumbling block for for for production and security.
