Biodiversity is the variety of plant and animal life in the world or in a particular habitat. The food we eat doesn't come from the grocery store – it comes from nature. We share our world with millions of different species.
rich biodiversity will provide us with essentials like food, drinking water, clean air, medicines and so much more. Without biodiversity and all the services that they give us, we cannot survive. Almost every country in the world faces a serious challenge due to our eating habits. Whether the challenge obesity, poverty and disease are under threat. But the food we consume also threatens the climate, life on land and life below water. There are more than 5,000 crops used for food historically, we get more than 50 per cent of our plant-based calories from just three crops. We get around 75 per cent of our total calories from just 12 crops and five animals. This lack of diversity in our diet causes a lack of diversity in nature, and also makes us less resilient to diseases in our food supply. An organization like WWF-panda a non-governmental organization is actively participating in supporting to bring a diverse variety of food. What we can do to protect our biodiversity as an individual/consumer is by eating a wider variety of foods. Hi Rafa,
Thank you for writing about biodiversity and I really agree to your point that we cannot survive without the biodiversity. At the end, you mentioned that 'What we can do to protect our biodiversity as an individual/consumer is by eating a wider variety of foods.' I would like to ask for some explanation about this statement because I do not clearly see why eating a wider variety of foods help. Except this, your report is clearly written and I enjoyed reading it. With your explanation in regards to your last statement, I believe this would be a great report! Good work!

Hello Rafa
Thank you for sharing your opinion on biodiversity with us! Above all, I believe that actions to protect biodiversity start from realizing that we are only sharing the world with millions of different species. However, wildlife is going extinct at an unprecedented rate, which is 1,000 times faster than its natural speed. In order to mitigate this issue, consuming a wide variety of foods can be one possible solution. Thank you for your wonderful report. I look forward to reading more reports from you. : )

Greetings Rafa,
Your report is directly related to this year's theme on Biodiversity Day - Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health, which is also the topic of this year's monthyl event.
It is quite shocking that we get more than have of our plant based calories from just simply three types of crops! We should definitely try to consume different types of vegetables/fruits to make us less susceptible to diseases.
Thank you for this wonderful report and keep up the good work.
