Free report: Unreported site by government- Dam in Paklihawa |

This is a dam that borders Nepal and India. It is mainly used to control the water flowing from Nepal into India. During rainy season there's plentiful of rainfall that causes increase in water level and there's excessive flow of water from Nepal into India due to which India may get drowned. That's why, the dam is blocked in rainy season. This in return causes flooding of villages in Nepal. While in summer the dam is opened, this aids people of India to irrigate the land while Nepalese suffer from water scarcity in their land. In both way, Nepal has to suffer. And now, due to excessive deposition of household and industrial wastes plus drainage, the quality has entirely degraded and eutrophication, land pollution, air pollution and water pollution is the ultimate result. People are working to reduce it but the pace is far slower as tortoise speed. Policies and plans should be made in such a way that both the nations are equally benefited. |

Hello Asmita
Thank you for bringing up this important issue on the dam at the borders of India and Nepal. It is very sad to hear that Nepal has become the only of mismanagement of the dam. It is imperative for both governments to get feedbacks from people of both nations and take appropriate actions to mitigate the problems. Please keep us updated if there is any news regarding this. : )

Hi Asmita,
Thank your for writing this report and I am sorry to hear that although the dam is at the borders of India and Nepal, Nepal is suffering from the water-related issues. It is important for India and Nepal to reach a consensus so that both countries can enjoy benefits from this dam. To reach this consensus, it is critical that relevant policies and plans are needed. This is a great report and please keep up with the good work!

Hi Asmita!
It is unfortunate that though India and Nepal share this dam. It has started to become a graver problem for Nepal than it is India. But I do think that an form of pollution that affects the resource, affects everyone in the very same way. I think the residents of India who are particularly irrigating are suffering the most as well, because they have to use the water that is getting poorer and poorer in quality to irrigate.
I do hope that instead of the solutions coming at a snail's pace, that rather the issue is resolved quickly.
Thank you for reporting Asmita, Keep it up!
Warm regards,
Rosa
