(THEMATIC REAPORT)Air pollution

by Rafa Mohammed Ashique | 27-04-2019 21:32 recommendations 0

Air pollution consists of chemicals or particles in the air that can harm the health of humans, animals, and plants. Pollutants in the air take many forms. They can be gases, solid particles, or liquid droplets. Air pollution is mainly created by Humans.

The burning of fossil fuels are one of the highest reason why the air is polluted in many countries around the world.

Sulfur dioxide emitted from the combustion of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and other factories combustibles is one the major cause of air pollutionPollution emitting from vehicles including trucks, jeeps, cars, trains, aeroplanes cause an immense amount of pollution. All these emissions causes global warming, which will be causing the greatest harm for human beings in the future

Agricultural activities

Ammonia is very common by product from agriculture-related activities and is one of the most hazardous gases in the atmosphere. Use of insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizers in agricultural activities have grown quite a lot. They emit harmful chemicals into the air.

Ozone exists in the Earth¡¯s stratosphere and is responsible for protecting humans from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Earth¡¯s ozone layer is depleting due to the presence of chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons in the atmosphere. As the ozone layer will get depleted, it will emit harmful rays back on earth and can cause skin and eye related problems. UV rays also have the capability to affect crops.

In cities with the highest levels of air pollution, residents have poorer sleep decreased work performance, and are at risk for a variety of health issues including lung disease and cancer. However, adults don't face poor air quality's effects. Instead, children are among the most at risk.

If we don¡¯t start protecting our environment now the future will be going to face one of the biggest dangers of all time.

Here are some shocking things you need to know about air pollution-

92%of the global population live in places with unhealthy air quality.

Indoor air pollution kills 4.3 million people every year.

More than 40 per cent world¡¯s population rely on open fires or traditional stoves to cook and heat their homes. The smoke that those fires produce includes heavy concentrations of carbon monoxide, particulate matter and other toxic air pollutants. Children and women who typically spend the most time inside around the fire – are at greatest risk of exposure.

    Greetings Rafa,

Children are our future, and it is saddening to see how they can be the most affected age group when it comes to air pollution.
We really need to watch out for this issue whether at being outside or inside!

    Sincerely,
    Eco Generation

    Hi Rafa,

Thank you for this wonderful and thorough report! It was indeed informative and I personally gained more knowledge regarding air pollution. It is pretty frustrating to know that air pollution actually affects a lot in terms of public health and we should urge our government to take more aggressive measures to save us from this deadly pollution! Great work Rafa!
