Kathmandu, capital of Nepal- a place famous as city of temples then, is now recognized for it¡¯s air pollution. Air pollution in Kathmandu is increasing day by day. Recently, state of global published Nepal air pollution rate in 2019 that depicts 100 u9/m3 in 2017 AD. It was u9/m3 in 2016 AD which was found to be the highest among SAARC Nations. 2017 surveys show that half of the world population is suffering from domestic air pollution. Using of traditional chulos or kitchen has been the major cause of air pollution in Nepal since past days to present. The air pollution has resulted in the increase in the rate of cancerous patients. The ozone layer is depleting gradually. Air pollution has resulted in increase in patients number in hospital with most common symptoms of headache, eye, neck pain and various respiratory, neurological and cardiovascular disorders. It may also result in low fertility rate. This is the most threatening and challenging problem of today since it decreases the life span of every person by 20 minutes. Oil, smoke, bacteria, fungi, virus, various microbes from factories, kitchens, constructional works, cosmetics and domestic sources are the major source of air pollution. Smoking is also dreadful that give rise to various aspiratory problems. In case of Nepal, people of Urban areas are more prone to respiratory problems than that of country side. There¡¯s air pollution even if you are inside the home; how does it occur? If you have very poor ventilation system or if you are using wood for fireworks, cooking and other purposes. It directly infects human mainly infants, old ages people, patients and pregnant lady. In developing countries, people mostly cook the food in woods. Air pollution occur in classroom , roads, hospital, industries everywhere. The traditional kitchen must be modernized. The old and outlasted vehicles should be repaired. Industries must use scientific chimneys and make proper management practices for air outlet. Smoking must be stopped. In addition to this, environment should be kept green, clean and fresh by plantation, cleanliness and other management practices. Government as well as local concern people and authorities should be active towards this issue and the proper policy, plans with implementation should be practiced. Air is everywhere that¡¯s why, keep the atmosphere and air clean where you breathe in. It¡¯s all our responsibilities in together. |

Hello Asmita Gaire
Thank you for sharing this information about the current air pollution problem in Kathmandu and how it may affect human health. Air pollution causes irritation of eyes, skin problem and respiratory diseases. However, according to a research done by WTO, air pollution also causes about 7 million premature death. We can reduce air pollutant emission by using less transportation and also we should take care of ourselves by avoiding air pollution exposure. Thank you for your report again!
