Eutrophication- a river illusion and human reality!

by Asmita Gaire | 09-03-2019 11:08 recommendations 0

The incessant flowing clean water that used to be a great source of water in the past is just aligned in the books at present. Nepal, the greatest source of water resource is now in critical condition. Today I am addressing about one of the water resource of Nepal.

This is a river in Dande, Paklihawa. It bridges Nepal to India. Instead of getting the care from both nations, it has suffered a critical situation. At first it became site for disposal of household wastes and then industrial and gradually it has to bear all the wastes from both Nepal and India. This is heart pricking.

In summer, it get dried tremendously. While in winter, it mimics you i.e. it's hardly possible for you to distinguish whether it is a river or a ground. Yes, it results Eutrophication. Similarly in rainy season it cries and get flooded with water.

Human are undefeated causative agent for the illness of these resources and we are also the doctor of them. But human spirit is inclined more to become a causative agent.

There are lots of rivers being treated this way, Dande river is just a representative.

How much human has progressed in civilization, they are still lacking behind in the protection of these great sources in nature!

    Hello Asmita,

Thank you for addressing the water resource problem in Nepal.
It is heart breaking that the problems Dande River is facing are clearly caused by human activities. In order to stop eutrophication from occurring, both government's scientific approach and residents' active participation is required.
Thanks for sharing this report and I really would like to hear good news regarding this from you in the future.

    Hi Asmita,

Thank you for bringing up the problem that Dande River is facing. In fact, I also think that there are many rivers that are treated critically and Seoul, the city where I live, has many rivers and not all of them are treated well. Like you said, we need to think about how we could protect the environment while we are civilizing ourselves with cutting-edge technology, which is related to Sustainable Development. Overall, this is a concise and right-to-the-point report, and I really enjoyed reading it!
