The Emerald Network is an ecological network made up of Areas of Special Conservation Interest. Its implementation was launched by the Council of Europe as part of its work under the Bern Convention, with the adoption of Recommendation No. 16 (1989) of the Standing Committee to the Bern Convention. Above is a nice video about the importance of the Emerald network. Ukraine, having joined the States Parties to the Convention, committed itself to take measures for the protection of species and habitats, including the creation of an Emerald Network. The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry), responsible for the fulfilment of the obligations of the Berne Convention in Ukraine, is responsible for the design of the Networks and is responsible for the Department of Ecological Network and Nature Reserve Fund. |
