By 2021, the Ministry of Forestry of Belarus plans to increase the forest cover of the territory to 40.1%, and also to increase the average stock of forest plantations to 210 cubic meters. m per 1 ha. In addition, the average amount of wood harvesting will be up to 2.5 cubic meters. m with 1 ha of forest land. For the third year already, the Forest Fund of Belarus has been experiencing the effects of climate change. So, in 2015, the foresters of the republic faced anomalous drought, in 2016 - with the passage of a hurricane, in 2017 - with the spread of six-toothed and apical bark beetles. All this has caused significant damage to forestry. The Belarusian side hopes to hold joint projects with FAO in the following areas: · Development of comprehensive measures for the rehabilitation of damaged conifers in the southern regions of the country, · Development and implementation of a pilot project for the early diagnosis, monitoring and restoration of damaged plantings, · Assessment of the national forest inventory methodology in the framework of the technical cooperation program, · Conduct an international seminar on the protection of pine plantations from pests and diseases. Belarus is working on the creation of a number of strategic documents on the development of forestry. In particular, the Ministry is developing a strategy for adapting forestry in Belarus to climate change until 2050, a strategy for the long-term development of forestry in Belarus with low greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, a National Action Plan for Forestry Adaptation to Climate Change until 2030, and a National Action Plan on the introduction of a "green economy" in the forestry of Belarus until 2030. About 1.6 billion people today earn their livelihoods at the expense of the forest. More than 80% of land species of animals, plants and insects inhabit the forests. Understanding these facts, the international community unites in solving global problems. The Republic of Belarus is no exception. Hello Iryna
Thanks for your report about the forests in Belarus. Forest are of great importance to us but due to the human activities the percentage of forest is decreasing. We must focus on the afforestation program. Thank you for listing us the future projects that are going to be organized. I ho hope to read more reports regarding those projects too.

Hey there Iryna!
I commend the nation of Belarus for the swift response to what climate change has done to the country. I believe more than ever now that the plan put forward by the Ministry of Forestry will bring forth the growth of the nation's Forest so as to uplift the citizens of the country and, to sustain the ecological niche that allows Wildlife and flora to exist in this forest.
