The book that had changed my life

by Jeewon Shin | 20-02-2019 23:36 recommendations 0

The book led me to the real truth of the world. It unveiled the truth that I did not see through the eyes of a child and this had matured me and changed my life. When I was little, I thought that the white smoke from factories were clouds and thought that the factories were actually cloud making machines. Yeah. For real. After reading this book, I was confronted to the real world where problems did exist and where there were things that were not perfect. I would love to tell you the name of this book, but unfortunately the last time I read it was five to six years ago and I could not find it in my house. What I do remember was that it was an introductory book about climate change that explains how it affects every little thing on the Earth.

It started with how fossil fuels are made. It was made from algae that lived even before dinosaurs existed on our Earth. As it died, its surroundings buried it deep underground and after time, the layers of earth increased, the pressure that pressed down the corpses got stronger and the temperature where it was kept got hotter. It would squeeze dead algae and turned into oil, gas, and rocks. This is the birth of fossil fuels. After reading this, I could see why it was called fossil fuels. Later on, the book talks about the history of how the fossil fuels are used.

In a different chapter, the authors talk about the disasters caused by climate change. About this part, I had heard of them from school but did not have particular thoughts about it. However as I was reading this book, I got angrier and angrier. People complain why tragedies such as flood, hurricane, and drought happen to them, but don¡¯t think that it was their fault. I could think of the Korean proverb, ¡°What goes around, comes around¡±. We have harmed the environment and that is what we got for what we have done.

The book also talks about animals affected by climate change and how it eventually damages us. I read about animals having nowhere to go, going extinct, and dying out in human¡¯s hands.

The most unique thing about this book was that it included solutions to these problems. What we can do to help the Earth and what other people are doing to stop climate change. It had inspired me to continue environmental projects in my life.

    Good day Jeewon,

I must say that the book you read has a who spectrum of information that is really needed by individuals who are unaware of the major dangers the Earth is currently facing. Moreover, of how much power they have to intercept and mitigate the issues we face.

More and more, it has become apparent that people want to make a difference, just as you have obliged to and this books shows us that with information like this, more people will get to understand the seriousness of Earth's warming problem and act on them.

All-in-all, thank you for your well written report Jeewon!
    Take care now,
    Rosa Domingos
