This December 2018, just before conference in Katowice, our organisation (Youth for sustainable development in Belarus) support the initiative of the UN Youth Delegates of the Visegrad Group and hold on December 2nd the Youth Climate Conference (VYCA+Belarus). During the climate conference VYCA + Belarus, participants discussed and topics related to climate change and learnt from personal examples what each of us can do to prevent climate change. Belarusian experts Alexander Grebenkov, a participant in the COPs as a part of the Belarusian delegation, talked about importance of climate change, and why the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is important. Senior Researcher of the Center for Climate Research, Viktor I. Melnik told about climate change in Belarus and how it affects different branches of economic activity. After theoretical part, the participants moved to the interactive part with climate workshops, thanks to them participants can now speak in simple language about climate change. Participants also had a unique opportunity to participate in interactive modeling of climate negotiations. Each participant had a role as participant in the main climate negotiation process at the Climate Simulator World Climate Simulation. Representing various countries and blocks of countries, the participants were able to see to which increase in temperature some or other political decisions of different states could lead. Our organisation will continue our work and we hope to include more Belarusian universities in World Climate Simulation. Hi Iryna,
I am glad to see that the Youth Climate Conference was a great success. Especially when the participants could not simply converse on matters of climate change.
Thank you for reporting!
Warm regards
Rosa Domingos
