Plastic Straw Disappear in Multiple Fast Food Chain

by Ida Ayu Mas Amelia Kusumaningtyas | 20-02-2019 19:42 recommendations 0

There is something different in Indonesia from 2019 that people have started taking notice of. Multiple fast food chains has been saying no to plastic straw, which are KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and McDonald.

The movement was first started in 2017 by Divers Clean Action (DCA) and KFC, using the hash tag #Nostrawmovement. At the beginning, only a couple of KFC stores have removed plastic straw dispenser from customers view. The disappearance of the dispenser makes people think if they really need plastic straw or not. Customers can still ask for plastic straw at the counter, but rarely do they do so. In 2018, this no straw movement at KFC started to expand nationally where 630 KFC stores since November doesn¡¯t provide plastic straw dispenser.

McDonald followed suit in November 2018 with the hash tag #Mulaitanpasedotan that means start without straw. There are already 189 McDonald stores that doesn¡¯t provide plastic straw dispenser anymore. However, both KFC and McDonald still provide plastic straw for certain drinks that has floats or cream in them.

Glad to hear that plastic straw have disappeared in multiple fast food chain. We can together beat plastic pollution if we refuse the plastics that we can't reuse.
