Poem Recitation competition on Environment protection, prize distribution, and stationery distribution

by Dibya Bhatta | 28-01-2019 23:59 recommendations 0

I had done such competition in school with well off kids but today it was an unique experience and also a challenge to conduct program among kids of marginalized Majhi community whose major priority is fishing and meeting fundamental needs.
Education is always a secondary for them
Even today it was Monday and Day of Bazar where their parents to go sell fish and other home items to make money.Almost 50%kids were found absent. So the education is directly proportional to economic status of people.
But I must mention,
It's a day  worth mentioning!
Another day spent well reciting name of Tunza Eco-Generation and mother nature!
Poem recitation competition for (grade 6,7,8)plus pencils distribution to the kids (1to 4).I spent
A day well at Nagkanya secondary School with curious minds!
They recited the poem so well.
Their level of understanding was outstanding!winners we're awarded with prizes!
Thank you so much respected Principal sir(Mr.Buddhiraj Phuyal)sir
Laxmi aunty,Leela aunty,Binay jha sir, Sita aunty,Krishna sir ,Ram Kumar sir and entire faculty members of school for your help!
The school is located in middle of marginalized majhi community and almost 95% of the students are from the same community!!
The students speak their mother tongue and it's challenging task to teach them or instruct them in different language other than mother tongue but I must say the faculties have done an amazing job.
I entered the school with tunza Eco-Generation bag equipped with stationery items to award as prize and distribute to kids. The school building was newly built. It was clean ,well maintained but the torn out sweater in the elbow of many of the children showing their poverty clearly.
When I gave the pencils after the lunch break one of the girl said that she had lost her pencil today and couldn't write before the break and that made me feel good about my own task.
One of the teachers humored that because all have same pencils now they will blame one another if one of their pencil is stolen .
Teachers helped me to judge the competition.Iam great ful to them for this.
I told students about ecogeneration, presented the ecogeneration school kit, Oriented them about
ambassador program but then they had no internet and phone So they were sad about it! :( They we're gossiping ideas to get a phone.
They asked me to click a selfie with them and that brought a smile in their face!
We can't change the world but our small effort can bring about a great change.
I love being with kids because it helps me relive my childhood.
I love to motivate them to protect environment.Being with them makes me active and younger.
I have uploaded one of the poem in my Facebook account as well. :)
I could not upload more photos due to large size of pictures.

Wow, lots of feedbacks up here :)
Hello Dibya, giving motives to our future generation with various types of competition or challenges is really creative job to do so. Though we do not force them to participate in such activities, the ones who pay attention to such events simply get 'exposed' to reasons for holding competition or challenges. It naturally leads participants to understand the purpose of challenges and they will finally enter into steps to understand the usage of stationary and gifts provided by TUNZA E-gen, getting to know better off about environmental problems and what they can earn from such events!
Thanks for your effort and sharing your experience with us!!!

This is very impactful! Involving the children especially in such a creative way will not only make sure that they have fun, but also teach them in the process
