Iceland Prime Minister

by Adam Zhou | 01-01-2019 12:37 recommendations 0

Leaders are the threads that constitute society, and the stronger the leader, and the one with more of the right intentions, can lead to a more fruitful and efficient means of work. The sector most neglected currently is that of the environment, where the norm is to usually emphasize economic development. What some people don't realize, however, is that the two can be interconnected and both sides can be maintained in harmony.

Recently, Iceland has elected a 41 year old environmentalist as its new prime minister. Katrin Jakobsdottir, who is part of the Left-Green Movement, used to also be the education minsiter of the same nation. One of her main campaign promises was to place Iceland to be entirely carbon neutral by the year 2040. Emphasizing a clean green economy in transportation (for instance in electric cars), planting more trees, and using renewable energy to power up public institutions was also under radar.

Further attention has been placed to the ecotourism sector. Proper regulations and management in regards to Iceland's 2.2 million visitors in 2017 will ensure that both the economy and the environment can prosper. It might even be the case where other nations can learn from Iceland's initiatives listed above.

In doing so, she has not only garnered the attention of the environmental organizations and the public's perception of the lacklustre performance from previous administrations. She has also been successful in uniting both sides with her democratic socialist perspective. Ensuring that unity is present when a time is filled with turmoil (given that she is the fourth prime minster elected in two years in addition to the mistrust in the election process) is essential so that her plans of action will be able to take place. Her public perception is already looking advantageous but only time will tell to see how much impact she can bring.

Hello Adam, taking part in ecotourism in purpose of learning the value of environment is totally different to that of regular tours we do throughout the world. However, increase in the number of visitors also mean pollution or relative problems that can be raised in near future, and I do worry about that part :)
Without it, it might be ok!
Thanks for your report, we need to know and learn environmental values that are neglected easily

Glad to hear about environment activist being nominated as the leader. In our country, we haven't seen any environmentalist entering in the field of politics. It is necessary for environmentalist reach the level where they can formulate and implement the laws. Hope this turns out be a great changing step in the history of the nation and i too hope to see all his plan been accomplished.

Thank you for the report Adam and keep writing great reports :) :) :) :)
