After the discontinuation of regulation on trial of paid plastic bag in Indonesia in early October 2016, there is no other effort done nationally regarding control in plastic bag usage. Even so, a few cities in Indonesia have/will ban plastic bags. Below is a list of cities that have implemented regulation on the ban of plastic bags.
1. Banjarmasin City Located in South Borneo, Banjarmasin has banned single use plastic bags at retail store since 2016. The policy as stated on Mayor Regulation Number 18 Year 2016* about the ban of plastic bags for retail and modern market has been effectively implemented since 1 June 2016. This policy was issued as the result of the evaluation of implementation trial paid plastic bag policy. Although it was deemed ineffective nationwide, the Mayor of Banjarmasin committed to continue banning the use of plastic bags at retail stores by issuing the Mayor Regulation. 2. Balikpapan City The city of Balikpapan is located in East Borneo. Since 3 July 2018 through the Mayor Regulation Number 8 Year 2018, the City of Balikpapan has implemented a policy about the usage of plastic bag at modern retail stores. Before implementing such a policy, the City Administration has informed its citizens by putting notice in every store during several months. Balikpapan is the second city after Banjarmasin to implement a regulation regarding the ban of plastic bag in Indonesia. Here is another list of cities that already has a policy regarding the ban on plastic bag and will implement it soon. 1. Bogor City Starting 1 December 2018, the city of Bogor, which is located in West Java will ban the use of plastic bag at modern markets. The implementation of the policy is based on the Mayor Regulation Number 61 Year 2018 about lessening plastic bag usage. 2. Denpasar City The island of the Gods also known as Bali is a favorite tourist destination for both locals and foreigners. Denpasar is the capital city of this island. Starting 1 January 2019, plastic bag usage will be banned from modern stores at Denpasar. The regulation about lessening plastic bag usage is stated on the Mayor Regulation Number 36 Year 2018. Hello Ida, a few reports mentioning the establishment of policy of banning the use of plastic bags have been written in our board so far.
About Indonesian case, I think the local community and government are doing well on this issue since plastic pollution itself conveys its prime effects to nearby regions, destroying the landscape and environment totally.
Drastic restriction may trigger condemnation from the public or chaotic social problems related with it, but well planned projects as such would make up the good result at the end!
Hope thos policies and projects go well within!

Hello Ida
I have seen various nations which makes consumers pay extra money for plastic bags so that the consumption rate could go down, and South Korea is also one of these contries. However I didn't know a lot about nations whom actually ban the use of plastic bags in markets so thanks for listing nations that do implement this policy!
Thanks for sharing :)
