Resource quality objectives of the Berg Catchment Area

by Rosa Domingos | 14-09-2018 00:52 recommendations 1

On the 7th of September, a Berg Resource quality objective training programme was held within the Department of Water and Sanitation in Cape Town. The main objective was to educate the process and analysis of aquifers in the Cape Town region so as to track groundwater quality and groundwater quantity.

The event was attended by members of the surface water and geohydrology departments and a member the Delta Consultancy. The training contained actual solutions in the case of finding alternative manners of exploring groundwater for the water stricken city.

Dam levels in the Western Cape has risen to 69%, and water rations has dropped from level 6B to level 5 but it is imperative to have alternative means of supplying water.

Not only for the natural cycle of ecosystems but for the livelihood of citizens and that's what the training was all about.

    Hi Yves

I'm glad that you know so much about this field, the more people who know this, even if you know just the basics, the better. And thank you for you commendation, I will surely keep on, but I cannot do it on my own. We all need to. )

    Hey there Israel!

Very much true, water is a major human necessity. Unfortunately, the program only issued topics related to groundwater due to time constraints. That is why they invited geohydrologists. But I do know that they will return with another training programme specifically targeting wetlands, which I am very excited about!

The previous training was based on estuaries and rivers which was earlier this year.

    Thanks guys!

Also, it is incredible that your every effort is leading to a more systematical management for water supply issues!
Keep up the great work and thanks for letting us know about recent updates of your work :)

    Rosa,

Till now, groundwater has been the major source of water for human consumption. I would appreciate if you could tell us more about the other source(s) (if any) of water that was(were) proposed or recommended during the program.

Thanks for the report, I am very interested in areas as this. Good work

hello Rosa, hey listen I don't care if you are a hydrologist or not, but all I know and really believe is that I had forest hydrology module in my past years of study. Whichever mean I really understand how much ground water is so important in water management, and am so glad you really coming a very big part of Cape Town to understand underground water.

Great job Rosa. Keep worrying about environment so that our future generations won't suffer much as we are&#128536 !
