'Ozone Depletion and International Project to stop it'

by Hnin Phyu Sin | 09-09-2018 01:48 recommendations 0

Climate change is very happening issue worldwide and we have already faced so many natural and anthropogenic disasters such as flooding, drought, storm, forest fire, and landslide and so on. Scientifically, climate change is happened because of global warming and it caused by ozone depletion. So in here, I will focus on why ozone depletion is happened, in saying so, it was caused by the Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) which are inflammable chemicals and many of these gases are used in refrigeration and air conditioning. Typically, ozone layer absorbs the ultraviolet radiation but when it depletes by CFCs, harmful UV rays reach the earth surface. In my country, changing weather condition is very serious and not having enough protection measures makes the nation to face many of deaths and losing the money. Local government does not yet have the official framework for integrated disaster management and implementation plans. So in this case we need to cooperate with other developed countries and try to have the plan for this as we live in one earth and one country?s issue is global issue.
The impacts of climate change have already undermined development outcomes and will continue to do so for future development outcomes if these impacts are not managed or addressed. Myanmar?s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) is low, for example, GHG contributions from its industry and construction sectors combined was 10 per cent of total emissions in 2002 (INC 2012). However, unplanned growth in the industry, energy, transport and urban sectors could increase its GHG emission levels. Myanmar Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (MCCSAP) 2016–2030 has already published by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC), the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, 2016. All the national strategy and action plans are really needed the public interest and cooperation because these are for the sake of citizens benefits.
Simultaneously with climate change, increasing country?s economic status also makes the challenging factor. Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan (2018-2030) is presented in 23rd August 2018 and it described some guidelines on three pillars development: social, economic and environment. The best practice for the sustainable development is to use the green economy strategy. The following are the sectors in the green economy policy framework:

Natural resource-based sectors Efficiency-based sectors
Agriculture and livestock
Non-renewable energy
Fisheries
Manufacturing
Water
Buildings
Forests
Transport
Extractive industry
Waste
Renewable energy
Urban and human settlements

Also, in Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan (2018-2030) mentioned that although project selection is depending on the budgetary consideration, the more important thing is to select and prioritize projects that are truly needed for the country. National projects should be designed with a holistic view and with the welfare of the nation in mind. As Myanmar opens up, investment and trade have gone significantly. Today Myanmar enjoys historically low inflation, monetary and fiscal stability and holds amongst the lowest level of external debt in the region.

    Hello Hnin
Ozone depletion is a serious problem which is also inclined to climate change that could affect many parts of the living, especially in the agriculture field. So it is really nice to hear about the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan that aims to improve such problems. Also, 'the more important thing is to select and prioritize projects that are truly needed for the country.' really well points out what should be taken into importance among all!
    Thanks for the report :)

    Hi Hnin!

I admire how the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan has put all three facets in place, them being economic, social and environmental.

The sustainability plan had put in a lot of considerable views to the budget of the country and how their actions from here on in will affect all these facets.

After all, we are one world and one country's issue is a global one.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Lovely report!
