Injured mockingbird now back on her feet, Thanks to a Good Samaritan! |

A small Northern Mockingbird was rescued by the California Wildlife Center in California, with feet that looked deformed, making it difficult for the little bird to walk (Virata, N/a).The bird condition was so severe that it couldn´t stand or even perch, which is critical to survival in the wild (Virata, N/a). So, in order to rectify the problem, the knuckling of the tiny bird´s feet and toes little "snowshoes" were created for her feet, spreading her toes in a walking position and taping them to the shoes (Virata, N/a).The forced position of her toes helped to retrain her feet to open and enabled her injuries to heal (Virata, N/a). After wearing the shoes for 5-7 days (this depended on the severity of the knuckling) it was remove to see if the bird maintains its digits in correct positioning without the shoes (Virata, N/a). Thereafter, the little bird spent some time in rehabilitation at the centre before being released into the wild (Virata, N/a). It is, isn't it? That's is one bird down and many others to go, but with such rescue centers available, many such stories will be a thing of the past.
