There is a unique club in my college and it is called the 'Creativity Club'. This club was started in the year 2017 during the fall semester. The main goal of the club is to make better use of the paper waste and if possible also reuse the used glasses by recycling it. Once the products were made it was sold to the people in the college and the revenue collected was donated to old age home. The products were mainly gift items and decorative objects. It was also inspired to practice the principles of closed loop waste management system.
It was easy to collect paper waste although it is in different forms but the main component was paper. For instance it consisted of used note books, old newspapers, cardboard/ cartoon boxes and egg trays from the mess. The students tried to inform everyone not to throw away the used papers as they wanted to collect it. They made various products like pen holders, gift boxes and various items to decorate house. If current consumption structure continues then we will need more than one planet to sustain us (Footprint network, 2014). This means that it is a crucial time to consider recycling as we can not afford to extract more virgin resources. In addition to the limited resources we are also facing a real problem regarding the effective waste management methods (BIO-SEC-SERI, 2012). It is even more important to recycle used paper because we will have to cut more trees to produce more paper. Hence, this small initiative to make recycle products the paper by creativity club contributes to waste management and it also helps people to buy goods which are recycled. The more we recycle paper, more trees will be saved. This club gave the opportunity to make the best use of of the waste and students were lucky to have an amazing club advisor who is a faculty member in the college. She inspired the students to work even when there were challenges; like when it was difficult to work as there were less number of students in the beginning of the club and when student ran out of ideas to make products she helped them. Apart from few challenges it gave opportunities for the students to think creatively and build up team spirit. While the biggest lesson learned was to make the best use of the resources because that is the first step towards producing less waste. Lastly, before we waste a piece of paper it is essential to realize that it can be reused. Hence, more you try to recycle paper, more trees will be saved! Hello Gayatari!
Used paper could be recycled and reused. By following the 3Rs we can reduce paper wastes. As the report says, if this pattern of consumption goes on without further improvement, we will get in to big problem. On that account I really think that this Creativity Club is very meaningful!
Thanks for the report and nice pic!
