UN Environment launched #CleanSeas in February 2017, with the aim of engaging governments, the general public, civil society and the private sector in the fight against marine plastic litter. UN Environment aims to transform habits, practices, standards and policies by connecting individuals, civil society groups, industry and governments. Bahrain is the 41st country to join the global effort. As part of the Clean Seas Campaign, the Government of Bahrain will be implementing many initiatives to reduce marine litter and its impacts by spreading awareness through national campaigns on reducing plastics use, conducting Clean Seas activities including beach clean-up days and other events. Bahrain will also organize events to promote reduction in use of disposable plastics and plastics packaging, promote the recycling of plastics, etc and continue the national focus on protection of national marine reserves and natural resources. "It?s exciting to have Bahrain join us in the fight against marine litter,? Erik Solheim, head of UN Environment said. ?By joining the CleanSeas campaign, they are showing great support from a vitally important region and we hope more nations will follow. Other MENA countries, Oman, Morocco and Tunisia, have already joined UNEP?s Clean Sea initiative. They have initiated similar measures to keep the sea litter free. Countries will also prepare legislation to press companies and citizens to change their wasteful habits. According to UNEP, drinks bottles and flip-flops, tiny plastic fragments, including microbeads used in cosmetics – are concentrating in the oceans and washing up on the most remote shorelines. |

Hello Neha!
Sea pollution is a rising environmental issue. The water is polluted by many waste made from tourists and also by poor management of water flow facilities. Actually the Korean eco-gen site's topic for this month is about this. I am glad to hear that programs are on the way in Bahrain to recover clean sea!
Nice report:)

Hello Neha, I just typed in 'Bahrain Clean Seas Project' in the portal and it covers quite a lot of news about this issue!
I knew that my country imports quite a lot of marin products from Bahrain, and hopefully this project may cover the enhanced quality of marine products imported, adding onto improved level of sea environment, too!!
Hope it successfully handles the project and raises good result at the end!
Thanks for the rerport :)
