Hello Tunza Readers!
For this report I?ll be talking about resource depletion! Resource depletion is the consumption of a resource faster than it can be replenished. The occurrence of resource depletion is found most frequently in farming, fishing, mining, water usage, and consumption of fossil fuels.
In Canada, the issue of resource depletion isn?t as prevalent due to its abundance in resources, but with all these resources it?s important to take care of them. Sadly, this is not the case as Canada ranks the fourth highest in ecological footprint per person, only after Luxembourg, Australia and the United States. Other statistics show that if everyone lived on Earth as Canadians do, we would need 4.7 Earths to sustain the consumption rates. We only have one Earth.
Overall, as the human population is ever increasing it leads to more sewage fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides fossil fuels being extracted and burned land deforested and developed minerals mined and waste and toxic byproducts of manufacturing being created. Especially for first world countries, the consumerist society that has been constructed needs to be changed if we want to take real action against further resource depletion.
As a society, we need to adapt to using renewable sources of energy, ensure our practices are sustainable (ie. farming and fishing) and that we are reducing our consumption to reduce the waste we produce.

Hi, Elliot! Increasing human population could lead to various side-effects like shortage of resources and excessive waste. Maybe we've been too partial, only concentrating on consuming resources without any further alternatives. It's too selfish to expect nature always be there for us. If it's necessary, I think the best way to conserve and heal it is to discover renewable energy generating technologies which ensure no harm and no exploitation. It'll take time to make it common all around the world but we can gradually adopt it into our life. Thanks for your report!

Hi Elliot! Shortage of resources has always been something that South Koreans have had to cope with, and we have incorporated more advanced technologies that can alleviate the situation. For example, the shortage of fossil fuels for electricity can be compensated by using higher-efficiency electrical appliences that require less electricity. Some buildings have LED lighting instead of fluorescent light, because it is more energy efficient. What measures do you think can be taken to solve depletion in other resources, such as water or food?
