Energy Saviors! |

Energy Saviors! Living in the 21st century, we're witnesses to an enormous consumption and variety of energies. Life as it is could hardly be imagined without the technology we possess today, and technology couldn't possibly have a role in our life if it weren't for energy. As a large number of energies exist, each with their own positive and negative sides, it's beneficial that environmentalists try to learn as much as they can about the effects that they have on the environment. In these circumstances, it's easy to forget or disregard the basic principles of saving energy. Not only is it economically favorable, but it can also have a very positive effect on the environment. We can conserve natural resources and also protect the environment from the negative effects of excessive energy usage. That is why I've chosen to provide you ( and my classmates ) with some helpful information on saving energy. There are many ways to save energy, but I would like to emphasize a few of the most rewarding. Heat insulation can lower the household energy consumption by an enormous amount, as ?of the total household energy is used for heating. Especially during the winter months, proper heat insulation can prove to be an efficient energy saver. Even during the summer, it can also help a household to not overheat, limiting the need for buying air conditioning systems (which are also an added energy consumer). The proper usage of household devices can also limit the energy usage of our household. For example, fridges that work 24 hours a day and 365 days in a year, use about 15 % of the household electrical energy. Today there are many different classes of energy saving fridges (A++ is be the most efficient, using below 30 % of the amount of energy a D-class fridge would use), so looking out for any device with international energy saving labels can prove to be a very profitable investment. Of course, as technology evolves, so does the energy efficiency in comparison to older devices. Lastly, energy saving lighting should be a big interest for every environmentalist. Using only one fluorescent light bulb instead of common one can save up to 50 $ in its lifetime. An average lifetime of fluorescent light bulbs is 10 000 hours, compared to the 1000 hours of a common light bulb.[1] Happy energy saving! ![]() [1] 200 EE tips on saving energy, UNDP brochure in Bosnia and Herzegovina |

Thanks for posting Armin. And also it is important to note that as industrial energy consumption takes a larger part in most industrialized countries, a joint effort to lead the energy market to evaluate efficiency more than before could do some good for everybody. Thanks!
