Dewa launches annual peak load reduction campaign |
---|
In line with the large number of environmental initiatives launched by the Dubai Govt., the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has launched its Annual Peak Load campaign. Its a part of the ?Let?s Make this Summer Green? initiative, to raise awareness about transcending towards a more sustainable lifestyle and rationalizing electricity and water use to conserve natural resources, protect the environment, and reduce Dubai?s carbon footprint. The campaign, which encourages consumers to cut down on energy use during the peak load period of 12pm - 5pm in the summer, has just begun to show positive results from the community. The campaign also encourages people to reduce their use of electrical appliances that use large amounts of energy, such as washing machines, hair dryers, kettles, and electric furnaces. Personally, I believe the usage of appliances like Hair Dryers, Dishwashers, etc.must be reduced. These appliances apart from wasting large amounts of water and electricity are often not a necessity. Using conventional methods like washing utensils in taps is often more sustainable. DEWA quoted that, these appliances should be used outside peak load hours to reduce pressure on the electrical grid. Through this campaign, Dewa strives to familiarise customers with methods that contribute to reducing the load on the power grid. Air-conditioning accounts for about 60 per cent of peak load use, and by raising the temperature of the air-conditioning system even slightly, it is possible for consumers to lower their electricity bills and increase the overall reliability and efficiency of the electrical system. The strategy aims to reduce energy demand by 30 per cent by 2030, and reduce carbon emissions to 16 per cent by 2020. The campaign supports the process of sustainable development in the emirate through the rationalisation of electricity, water, and natural resources. Such campaigns aims at raising awareness about adopting a more sustainable lifestyle, Source: GULF NEWS |

Well it seems postponing washing dishes is easily doable, and just like that, other small things can be easily achieved. It would not be that difficult to cut down the energy use during the peak time if the campaign successfully hands out instructions :D thanks for posting

Humaid, I agree with you that there are things that we do not necessarily need but consumes too much electricity and resource, like hair dryer or dishwashers. It may not be possible to stop its use at once, but we need to put effort. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

That's very nice and that should be endorsed in the whole world that electric and water wastage should be minimised and appliance which aren't mandatory should not be used.clean energy should always be used to minimise carbon emissions which are the cause behind global warming

Harmanjot has posted the same report and as I commented there, this is a great campaign and is very meaningful. We must not operate appliances like washing machines, oven, irons etc during peak load and it is very much possible if we plan our day. Thanks for posting.
