Dubai to get waste-to-energy plant by 2020 |
---|
As many ambassadors keep sharing the latest advancements UAE adopts to becoming more eco friendly, here's another feather in its cap.
Dubai will have the largest plant in the Middle East to convert waste to energy by the second quarter of 2020. The plant will be located in Al Warsan 2 and will be built at a cost of Dh2 billion. The project is in line with the municipality?s vision to make Dubai the most sustainable and smart city by 2021, which will in turn achieve the National Agenda?s objectives for a 75 per cent reduction in the number of landfills by 2021. This will provide more land plots that are currently being used to store waste, in addition to protecting the environment from methane emitted by landfills. The plant, which will begin its operations by the second quarter of 2020, will be able to process 2,000 metric tonnes every day during the first phase of operations, producing 60 megawatts of energy. Officials have said that the first phase of the plant will be built on 7.5 hectares of land, and that the entire project, following the completion of expansions, will be built on 15.5 hectares of land. Hoping the plant would help UAE achieve its zero waste landfill goal. Source - Gulf News |

In the region i used to live a year ago, they had the similar plant for this objective, to change waste to energy, and thanks to that the people around the plant didn't have to pay a penny for electricity. Thanks for letting us know of the plan Humaid.

Humaid, every time I read about UAE, its actions are all what should be implemented in other nations as well. It is almost the environmental role model to neighboring countries. I hope UAE could successfully achieve its goal. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
