Visiting children with Cancer

by | 30-06-2016 23:28 recommendations 0

As I have said in my previous post. Everyday is World Environment Day. Today, Green Team Indonesia went to visit children with cancer in Rumah Sakit Sanglah (Sanglah Hospital). This event was organised by the parents and teachers of Green Team Indonesia (My mom, our mentor, our new member who is also a teacher in our school). Originally, we wanted to teach the children crafts and sing along with them and have a bit of fun. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the doctor advised us not to.

We brought them dolls, snacks and colouring books. The dolls were declined too as the doctor was afraid the children would get a virus from it so we took it back home to pack it in plastic vacuums and to sterilise it first. We were only allowed to enter three by three or two by two as if there?s too much visitors in one room, virus could spread easily and the children are very prone to sicknesses at this stage.

A lot of the children were suffering from leukaemia, blood cancer. It was both heartbreaking and inspiring to see these children. Even though they have a life threatening illness in them, they were still able to smile and laugh with us. They were so happy when we gave them the presents. They opened the presents right away and started colouring and counting the amount of things we gave them.

It was nice to see these children happy. It doesn't matter if we can?t teach them now, hopefully in the future we can when their conditions are better. Their parents were also very grateful to us. They said so much ?thank you? and played with their children using the presents we gave them. Like the motto of Green Team Indonesia says Together, hand-in-hand, we can balance the world and Spread The Word of Kindness.

We took some pictures with the children, but unfortunately, we?re not allowed to publish it. We respect the choices of the children and therefore, I will only publish the picture of us with the Tunza eco-generation banner.

    Dear Heonjun Park,
Thank You so much for your nice comment! We weren't allowed to stay for long but the amount of time given to us to spend time with them was enough for us to see them smile and laugh.

Well done Patricia! The children too must have enjoyed your presence. I'm also glad that the promotional goods were used in this good cause and that the children loved it. Thanks for writing!

    Dear Arushi Madan,
Thank you so much for your nice comment :) I agree, it's not everyday they get visited and get presents. Simple things like these could have a huge impact on their lives. It sure did make them happy which makes all of us happy.

Patricia, it is so lovely of you for visiting children with cancer. Though you may not had time for environmental education, just simply meeting and giving presents should have gave them hope and courage. Thanks for sharing your meaningful experiences with us, and have a great day!
