Chitwan National Park Awarded For Tiger Conservation

     Chitwan National Park was established in 1973 as the first National Park of the country.It covers total area of 932 sq. km.It is located in the subtropical inner terai lowlands of south central Nepal in the Chitwan District.And lies in between the altitudinal range of 100m to 815 m.                     
     Total 68 species of mammals,56 species of herpetofauna,126 species of fishes and 544 species of birds including 22 Globally Threatened Species have been recorded in the park.However its recognized for One Horned Rhinoceros and Bengal Tiger.Nepal celebrated Zero poaching years(Zero tigers and Rhino killed) in 2011 and 2013 for which CNP has great contribution.Despite the threats and conflicts there is increas in the number of tiger and their current population in the country is 198.And 120 of those tigers are recorded in CNP.
     For their tremendous effort and sucessful Tiger years, recently conservationists around the globe has declared CNP as first ever Global Tiger habitat.And thus its the first global site that is renowned as Conservation Assured Tiger Standards
(CA|TS).
The standard is a voluntary, independent scheme for any site involved in tiger conservation and is based on around 17 elements with associated minimum standards and criteria for effective management of tiger reserves.

    and whats more, it gives us immense pleasure to know the national is located in our hometown. :D
