Ten Commandments for Sustainable Development

by | 17-02-2014 13:46 recommendations 0

First, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Tunza Eco-Generation, for being inactive for the past few months. I failed to post anything for the past 5 months of being one of the E-gen Ambassadors. I've been busy with piles and piles of school work and had countless problems with the internet source. But still I always find time on finding and researching local and national environmental actions done in my province, Albay and in the Philippines.

Like I've said, for the past five months as one the Ambassadors, I've been busy searching for environmental action done in Albay and in the Philippines. I've also been participating in local environmental events. There were events where I was invited to speak before my fellow youth and other people.(Ill post the details later this week). So Ill post 6-months worth of post in a my last days before my term expires, but still I hope that Ill, get extended because there are still many things that needs to be shared here in my region. The series of reports will serve as my accomplishment report for my first and "hopefully not the last" term. :)

My first post is about the Ten Commandments for Sustainable Development that was adopted in my province as a support for its on going provincial advocacy called A2C2 "Albay in Action on Climate Change"(this will be discussed in another post). The ten commandments serves as a reminder for all the Albayanos(the name we call the people from Albay) on what they should and could do in order to induce sustainable development. The ten commandments are as follows:

1. Thou shall stop the use of Chloroflourocarbons (CFCs), Per Chloroflourocarbons (PCFCs) and ozone depleting substances (ODS)

2. Thou shall not smoke cigarettes especially in enclosed spaces and never play around with drugs

3. Thou shall plant more trees and stop illegal logging and burning of forest

4. Thou shall protect endangered species and indigenous heritage and defend bio-cultural diversity

5. Thou shall not resort to destructive methods of fishing and shall rehabilitate damaged corals

6. Thou shall stop polluting the soil and waterways with garbage and toxic waste, instead, recycle and compost. There is cash in trash

7. Thou shall not resort to open pit mining and burning to dispose of garbage especially plastics to avert climate change

8. Thou shall stop black smoke emissions that cause mental retardation and disease especially among children by keeping vehicles and factories in good running condition.

9. Thou shall conserve clean water and energy because the earth has limited carrying capacity. Keep pollution in balance with natural resources and

10. Thou shall prevent wars. Avoid nuclear and chemical weapons that will destroy our common home.

I hope that you'll look forward to my future posts. :)

Albay Gov. Joey Salcedo is truly a good governance and climate change adaptation champion! I hope more local government officials emulate his strong political will to protect the environment and its citizens from the harsh impacts of climate change.
