Sharjah Light Festival reduces light consumption by 50%

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) organises the Sharjah Light Festival (SLF), the first and largest of its kind in the Middle East, is a landmark global event highlighting the Emirati, Arabic and Islamic culture. The event features highly talented international artists and performers who use the magic of lighting and cutting-edge technology to narrate the story of Sharjah?s heritage and architecture. This year, the festival will be celebrated under the theme of Sharjah, the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014.

For nine nights, the SLF turns the spotlight on twelve of Sharjah?s prominent landmarks and monuments, transforming their facades with a breath-taking interplay of lights, colours and artistic imagery that will celebrate the Islamic civilization, heritage and history of the Emirate and the region. The performances will be held every night from 7pm to 11pm on weekdays and until midnight on weekends from 06th to 14th Feb, 2014

Practically, all other lights of the building are switched off & only decoration lights are used. These lights are LED, tungsten, halogen etc. which are all environmental friendly. Mohammad Ali Al Noman The Chairman of SCTDA found that SLF has contributed to a fall of Electricity consumption by 50% at all 12 locations.

Such a massive event & still environment friendly. This is the beauty of UAE?s culture & heritage. They connect ancient to modern, but still sticking to their roots & following good natural practices.

All cities must follow the similar practices while celebrating the various events.
