The capital of UAE, Abu Dhabi has initiated an excellent environmental conserving step. Anybody visiting this city from outside (There are thousands of vehicles coming to Abu Dhabi from other emirates like Al-Ain, Dubai, Sharjah etc.) can park their car at Zayed Sports city situated on the outskirts of city & near to the highway and driver & maximum of 3 passengers can take free shuttle bus & subsequently free bus transportation throughout the city for the entire day. Zayed Sports city has 600 parking bays. Park & ride free tickets are valid from 6 AM to 8:30 PM on all week days except weekend. On weekends traffic is not an issue at all. Being the capital city persons need to visit it for various government assignments, many private companies have their head offices in Abu Dhabi. My father visits Abu Dhabi once in a week. Within my building 3 persons go to Abu Dhabi every day. Within the city, on a working day, finding the parking spot is very difficult, my father says, he has to circle the place at least 5-6 time until he gets a parking. This wastes fuel & time. It is anti-environmental practice. But now, there is an option. My father will definitely use this service next time he visits the capital. So far this scheme is in infancy stage & there are a few takers. But I?m sure it has a promising future. It is indeed a positive step. The only hitch is that there are less people using it. I hope as time passes by the usage will be more & this scheme will be extended in other cities also.
