The Jaguar in the XXI Century

The next report it is a part from the WILD 10 presentation of the Biofutura (NGO)

The populations of conservation priority species have declined dramatically and with them the intrinsic value of the same to the ecosystem. Somehow anthropocentric actions have been to decimate the species with which we coexist sometimes to exterminate even without understanding the processes that represent valuable to the health of the environment

Horses, cows, pigs and noblemen were the  animals involved in the conquest of America (Alfred Crosby, 1991) The reproduction of European animals in America was so intense that biologically qualify as extravagant

Ideological changes

And with the conquest came the devastation , came many changes, as the jaguar gods became part of evil animals and so named " Tiger " and the puma "lion" and ceased to be gods to become villains , stopped be revered to be hunted , sold their skins , outraged their habitats , not only they suffering these consecuense also, deer , peccaries , badgers and others too.

Thus began a process of reformulation of the Mesoamerican worldview, the thought forms of the conquerors did to wildlife was highly dangerous and so the jaguar along with many other wild species of great relevance for the Mesoamerican worldview lost their relevance in the symbolic univers afecting  the survival on the earthly plane, turned into enemies of crops, livestock and domestic animals and consequently persecuted until its annihilation.

Thank you for the report. We all learn about the Jaguars as one of the strongest predators in the world. But I feel sad they might be removed from our textbooks due to its extinction...
