Zero Waste Principle as Integrated Waste Management |
---|
Garbage is one of the causes of pollution of air, water, and soil. It will result in negative impacts if not managed properly. In fact, organic and non-organic waste have been accumulated in various areas due to the unconscious man to the negative effects that will be caused. Nowdays, besides causing pollution, apparently, unintegrated waste management can lead to flooding and disease be able to lurk the tranquility of human life on earth. Even some types of waste can be one of the factors causing climate change and global warming. In fact we can not imagine if the mounting garbage become monsters of human life. Therefore, an integrated waste management needs to be done to address the negative issues that will arise. Well, one of solutions to above problems is education. Education is one of the effective measures where it allows every human being to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and necessary value to shape a sustainable future. Sustainable future here is a long-term goal to manage waste in a sustainable manner. It also requires participatory teaching and learning methods that motivate and empower learners to change their behavior. Changes in human behavior in disposing of the garbage in place at least is able to reduce danger of garbage that have accumulated. Yet, some governments have started to implement Zero Waste Principle to managing waste. Zero Waste Principle is a integrated solution in handling accumulated garbages. There are three methods for handling that way which are by applying Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle. Reduce is to minimize the used materials through some methods that arenot harmful to be done. Re-use is a innovative way to use again the waste materials to be useful and economical materials. Recycle is a innovation to cycle the used materials through some technologies.

ALSO IMPORTANT TO KNOW-
Shipment of hazardous waste coming into UAE is being well-monitored and well-controlled.
UAE has efficient law enforcement machinery.
Center of Waste Management is the Competent Authority to monitor and manage the transportation of hazardous waste in the Emirates
Major hazardous waste streams in UAE are Petrochemical waste, Medical Waste, and e-Waste. To avoid hazardous waste export the cash-rich government-owned petrochemical companies have established centralized treatment facility.

Alberta - The UAE Government is encouraging private companies for e-waste recycling. Major electronic distributors have established waste collection centers and subsequent transfer to established facilities. However, good fraction of e-waste is still collected in an unorganized manner and exported to South and Southeast Asian countries.
