Thematic Report- The 11th Hour Being stuck in my house for the majority of the summer, a movie that caught my eye was, ¡°The 11th Hour¡± as it –of course– starred the famed Leonardo Di Caprio or rather his voice. To provide some context, the term 11th hour itself is quite interesting. ¡°The 11th Hour¡± refers to the last possible moment we, as humans, can revert our actions that have harmed the environment before it is too late. The film essentially depicts influential scientists and figures discussing our impact on the environment. Such people include Stephen Hawking and Gorbachev. It goes into detail about the connections between how our actions have contributed to the downfall of our world. But what I liked most about this movie, was not solely the exposure I received from it, but also the fact that it showed valid solutions to these problems. Hopefully, if not myself, I hope someone else takes inspiration from these solutions and acts to make a big change in our world. The movie tells all that it is truthfully. The true nature of global warming is the resulting natural disasters. In the United States, Katrina(a hurricane//in asia a typhoon) was only the precursor for more to come. I like this movie because it is a sobering wake up call for the rest of humanity yet still offers some solutions. Furthermore, it doesn¡¯t delve into one topic for the entire time. It depicts several instances of our actions that have made our world soon to be inhabitable, everywhere, from the plastic mountains sea to the contamination in the skies the movie exposes it all. The movie is clear and it¡¯s green message is defined in the title. It shows how we are in the last moment before we cannot change the fate of our world. It¡¯s a plea for humanity to come together, visually see the negative impacts we have made, and to change our ways. Honestly, I could not give a straight reason why I chose this particular movie. I guess it had a big imprint on me. The powerful images and discussions gave me insight into the problems that need to be addressed and how to respond. Furthermore, I felt a small sense of inspiration. It made me realize that my work with energy in the future will contribute to something greater than myself: The benefit of humanity. Personally, I feel that this sentiment is felt by many ambassadors and to anyone who cares for our world. I recommend this movie to anyone interested in our world as it exposed me to different environmental aspects I wasn¡¯t aware about. Maybe it will give you inspiration too :) |

Hello Keitaro,
this is your mentor WooJoo.
Thank you for sharing your report with us.
I've never watched the movie, so I feel interested towards it,
and I would like to spend some time to watch it.
A lot of environmental movies reveal serious problems ongoing throughout the world,
in which we should be aware of them and keep addressing them.
I guess you are studying/working in the field of energy,
so I hope one day you could find a better bioenergy solution for the world. :)
Best wishes,
WooJoo
