As climate change brings more abnormal weather patterns, it has also brought severe weather phenomena that have impacted our environment in numerous ways. While each country has been impacted by climate change in different ways, the effects of climate change have become more drastic in the Philippines. According to the National Integrated Climate Change Database and Information Exchange System, the Philippines is the third most vulnerable country to climate change. Being an archipelago located near the equator surrounded by oceans and tropical climate, the country is easily impacted by rise in sea levels, temperature, and typhoons. According to a 2011 PAGASA Report, heavy rainfall is expected to increase over the course of the next few decades. This increases the risks of landslides and threatens forest ecosystems. While it presents harm to human communities, it also creates risks to wildlife living in forest ecosystems. Furthermore, the report suggests that approximately 1 million hectares of grasslands in the country are at risk of massive fires as dryness and lack of rainfall persists during summer. As the temperature increases, this also increases water temperature that can ultimately threaten coral reefs. The increase in thermal stress causes coral bleaching, resulting in loss of rich marine habitats. This shows that climate change not only threatens human life, but all types of ecosystems that serve as habitats to different species. |

Hello Catherine!
It's your SJ mentor.
As Philippines is consisted of more than 7000 islands it is more vulnerable to climate change.
Since I've been to Philippines the reefs were most beautiful things I ever saw.
As the temperature increases, overrunning most of the delicate reefs are accelerating.
We must recognize the climate change not only threatens human life, but menace all types of organisms.
And it could revert to human race.
Thank you for sharing your report regrading consequences of climate change in Philippines.
Hope all is well.
Best regards,
SJ mentor.

this is your mentor WooJoo.
Thank you for sharing your first report with us.
Climate change is affecting the entire world.
Some countries are more vulnerable due to their location, geography etc.
Repeated flooding and drought are affecting South Korea too.
I hope citizens of Philippines stay safe.
Keep writing
Best wishes,
