Thematic Report: Effect of Climate Change in ecosystem of Nepal

by Asmita Gaire | 20-09-2020 20:59 recommendations 0

Climate change is global and is an unavoidable issue. It's impact is also global, and no one could deny that their nation is left behind untouched by climate change. Everywhere we look around, some troublesome activities can be encountered. I will try to share some of the impact that climate change has led in the ecosystem of Nepal. Lately, counting in tiger population in Nepal was carried out. With the very long effort and struggle, fortunately tiger population in Nepal has been doubled. However, their habitat is threatened. With the increase in population, the demand on the prey and land area for them has increased. It can somehow be managed by afforestation, but it was seen the tiger was spotted migrating towards higher altitude, this has made tiger specialist think about their migration towards higher altitude. Some tiger specialists believe it's because of climate change they are migrating towards higher altitude, however more study in the behavior of tiger is yet to be done. Similarly, the national flower of Nepal, Rhododendron, it grows in high altitude, the study by Lalit Kumar reflects that due to warming, it is believed that the flower is following upward ecological range shift since they grow in extreme cool climate. Likewise, there is seen great difference in the flowering season of plants. Irrespective to this, some invasive species which are not good for environment is getting widespread. It has encroached in a new habitat and we'll adapted in the changing environment. This is not good for environment. If we talk about aquatic ecosystem, many wetlands are being dried up and depleting due to climate change, it not cause scarcity of water, but also largely affects the endangered aquatic species. With global warming, the snow is rapidly melting and great mountains like Mount Everest, Mount Kanchanjanga, and many others are being in critical phase. The statistics of people from the past few year who have become victims of landslides, floods have tremendously been increasing.

This is all because of climate change. It's not only about Tiger or Rhododendron or Mountains or water; every aspect of environment including human have been greatly and negatively been affected. These examples are just a few representative to all the problems being happening in this universe.

Unfortunately, we don't have time to debate, what we all can do now is make step whether it is a small or a big one. But we must act towards the way of mitigating climate change to uplift the ecosystem.

    Hello Asmita!
    It's your SJ mentor.

Thank you for sharing your thematic report about the ongoing phenomena in Nepal due to climate change.
As the average temperature rises animals and plants can live in higher areas.
I think it is imposing that human should also live in elevated places due to heat crisis.
As you mentioned, we don't have much time to debate.
We must strive for work to delay the climate change.
Let??s do our best to save our world!
Hope things are fine with you.
I appreciate your devotion to Eco Generation.

    Sincerely,
    SJ mentor.

    Hello Asmita,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

Thank you for sharing your thematic report about Nepal's ecosystem.
I'm glad to read your second report.
I can't imagine how hard the people of Nepal have tried to prevent the tigers from extinction.
I guess bit more effort is required to protect their habitat too.
Climate change, accelerated by global warming, is changing the blooming seasons, wildlife habitat, weather, etc.
And yes, we should try to mitigate the climate changes by changing our life styles.

    Thank you once again.

    Best wishes,
    WooJoo
