FREE REPORT - ORGANIC AND LOCAL PRODUCE IN UAE SUPER MARKETS

by Anishka Jha | 16-08-2020 20:10 recommendations 0

Recently, Dubai-based business giant Majid Al Futtaim declared a nationwide collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) to bolster the efforts to increase the sale and production of naturally organic crop produce grown locally.  The local production will directly supply the local Carrefour stores in the UAE.  Carrefour is one of the most well-known retail outlets in the country, making this initiative a significant step towards alleviating GHG emissions via local production.

This planned initiative will also act as an economic benefit for local farmers by making it possible for them to put their produce up for sale via a widespread chain of collection and local dissemination in these supermarkets.

As per UAE¡¯s Minister of Climate Change and Environment, the programme will help accelerate the drive towards sustainable development by putting in place effective dissemination methods for locally-produced crop yield while simultaneously boosting the region¡¯s food security measures.

Apart from this, there are also important environmental and socioeconomic advantages to mitigating the distance of food from farm to fork including substantial reduction in energy expenditure as well as financial savings.

In addition, the last two months have seen 60 per cent rise in profit from local produce, in contrast to the same time the previous year.

Taking responsibility of this programme is another important role Majid Al Futtaim plays as a proactive UAE company in boosting the national economy. This programme also comes in addition to the already introduced hydroponic farms of the supermarket chain last year. Hydroponic farm produce are without pesticides & herbicides and at the same time minimal water is used in comparison to conventional soil-based farming. This will possibly motivate the utilization of innovative farming techniques in the near future.
