In the name of cosmetics we are using chemicals to adorn ourselves.In these days, most of the people prefer to be adorned by different sets of way. Some people prefer the home-made or using organic paste of mixtures available at home while other make the use of cosmetics inextricably. In fact, in this era the overlook and outfit has a lot do explain the personality so the people don’t hesitate to use the cosmetics to beautify themselves. Do we ever think before using cosmetics, is it friendly to the environment??? Cosmetics are freely available in a franchised market. It is also deemed that the celebrities emulate with each other in different brand of cosmetics they use in a way. We must be aware of the brand of the cosmetics we use. Cosmetics packaging takes hundreds of years to decay in the landfill. Different chemicals used are not only harmful to the environment but also human health. Mineral oil used in cosmetics are full of carcinogens. Thus, we inviting the slow death by the series of our activities. Sodium laureth sulphate is so toxic that full protective gear is required for it to be handled and it's in our toothpaste. Propylene glycol penetrates skin and causes liver and kidney abnormalities and it's found in shampoo, spray deodorant. Talcum powder causes ovarian cancer! Yet all these products are lurking in our bathroom cabinets. In the temptation of better look, we are causing harm to the environment. Turns out that chemicals in standard sunscreens, shampoos, and body washes can hang around in our waterways and soil for a long time, and many of them harm fish and wildlife. One of the plasticizing chemicals called “phthalates,” DBP is often found in nail polishes to prevent them from becoming brittle. In addition to being a potential hormone disruptor, it’s very toxic to aquatic life. It accumulates in the environment and has been linked to problems in fish, including altered behavior, genetics, growth and development. BHA and BHT are popular preservatives often used in moisturizers and makeup. In addition to being suspected hormone disruptors, they are both linked to potential environmental harm. BHA is listed as a chemical of potential concern by the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic, because of its tendency to bio accumulate and because it’s toxic to aquatic organisms. Studies have found that it causes genetic mutations in amphibians. BHT also has a moderate to high potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic species. Studies have reported that chemical sunscreens like oxybenzone are toxic to coral and are contributing to the decline of reefs around the world. In one recent study, for instance, researchers reported that “oxybenzone is an emerging contaminant of concern in marine environments.” Most interestingly, the perfumes we use in our daily life to get pleasing fragrance is really harmful t the environment. The perfume spay contains volatile compounds which on reaction with the sunlight forms ozone pollution. Hair colour restorers may contain lead acetate. It appears to be safe when used as directed, as there's no evidence significant quantities of lead are absorbed into the blood stream. Once we wash the cosmetics, it goes to the sink. Disposal of cosmetics is the disposal of the chemicals in the environment. From our sinks the chemicals slowly goes into our lakes, streams, rivers and public water systems. It damages wildlife and flora and fauna. It is not just aquatic life that is impacted. Livestocks that are affected by the toxins lose their genetic potentiality.Thus , we should give due consideration towards environment while using cosmetics along with human health. Beauty has been the most important criteria to evaluate people nowadays. I don't think this is positive trend, but I guess mass use of SNS has contributed to this social norm. To become beautiful, people use cosmetic products indistinguishably. However, massive usage of cosmetic product is not only harmful to one's skin, but also detrimental to environment as you've mentioned.

Thank you for the report about the chemicals in cosmetics! The cosmetic product is the essence of the modern chemical industry, and it can give a great impact on the environment. As you said, not only packaging but also the cosmetic itself is bad for our environment. There is an alternative eco-friendly cosmetics these days, so I hope many consumers to use that product instead of the normal cosmetics!

I totally agreed with your points.
Nowadays many cometics products have been invented,which give short term beauty but has negative impact on our face,body as well as environment.
We can use naturally occurring plants like Aloe Vera .
