In the month of March 2020 I got a chance to visit Guranse as a part of field visit from the office. Guranse is a small place in the Gurans rural municipality of Dailekh district, Nepal. Gurans means rhododendron which is a beautiful flower found in the upper belt of Nepal. The flower is also the national flower of Nepal. The place is famous for the flower. And the different activities for the conservation and protection of the flower is done in the place from the community level. Local government of the Rural municipality invests manpower and budget yearly to conserve the area. There is punishment if you try to pluck the flower and its encourage to the people for conservation of the Gurans flower. Government of Karnali province declared this place as tourist destination and last year allocated Rs.three million for development as Eco tourism project(https://www.newbusinessage.com/Articles/view/10770). The place itself is a beautiful landscape and the red flowers all around the place make it even more beautiful. The place is about 3 hours drive from the headquarter of the karnali province, Birendranagar. The place is on the way between the province headquarter and the most famous tourist places of the country like rara lake, shey-phoksundo lake, upper Dolpa. Guranse opens up the places for the most rural districts of the country like, Jumla, Kalikot, Mugu, Humla, Dolpa. Guranse is one of the most valued places for the tourism year 2020. This is also an example of community model Eco tourism where local people directly involve in protection of natural resources with economic development via home stay, view tower and natural scenic beauty. |

Hello Bal Krishna Pandey! This is mentor Taehyun!
Thank you for a report about Guranse, and thank you for the beautiful photos of rhododendron. I'm quite surprised that the flower 'tree' is quite bigger than our country's rhododendron. (Our country rhododendron's size is almost length of legs) And, glad to hear that Guranse is now doing an eco-tourism. Ecotourism is a relatively new idea but I think eco-tourism must be adapted in almost all tourism. We pollute our nature so much when we travel around. That serious problem can be solved with eco-tourism.
Thank you for the good report and good photo!
Green cheers!
