UNEP committee in Pokhara MUN |

As in my previous report, I had written that we are having UNEP committee in Pokhara MUN 2020. I feel glad to share you all that I will be Co Cochair of the committee. I will be supoorted by Mr. Nimesh Babu Oli as Chair and Miss Dikshya Subedi as Co Chair.
The United Nations Environment Program is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP acts as a catalyst, advocate, educator, and facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment. The work of UNEP includes: assessing global, regional and national environmental conditions and trends developing international and national environmental instruments strengthening institutions for the wise management of the environment The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is a program and fund of the United Nations reporting to Economic and Social Council and General Assembly. The United Nations Environment Assembly with a universal membership is now composed of 193 member states whereas before 2012, it had 58 member states as the Governing Council. Agenda of Discussion in committee: Impact of Eco-tourism on Sustainability Background on Agenda The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a resolution (A/RES/69/233) recognizing the contribution of sustainable tourism to poverty eradication, community development and the protection of biodiversity. The resolution, titled ‘Promotion of sustainable tourism, including ecotourism, for poverty eradication and environment protection,’ calls on the UN to promote sustainable tourism as a tool for achieving global development goals. The resolution, which was adopted by consensus and sponsored by 107 Member States, builds on a 2012 UN resolution on ecotourism, and draws on a report prepared by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), highlighting the importance of policies, guidelines and regulations for promoting sustainable tourism, including ecotourism. The resolution requests UNWTO and other UN agencies to develop recommendations on ways to promote sustainable tourism, including ecotourism, to be submitted to the 71st UNGA, in 2016. I will be sharing you all with the all details and resolution of the conference after the completion of the event.

It's so fortunate to have group like this, which is heading toward a common goal of environmental preservation. About the goal of ecotourism, I truly think that by this method some poor regions can be economically fulfilled. I'm sure you will do great as a co-chair, and hope the program continues with great success!
