What will you do after eating noodles and chocolates? "I will throw the plastic covers at the place after I finish my food." I asked this question to few students at the starting of my awareness program and most of them replied same as above. This was not surprise for me as the village and school was also suffering from plastic pollution. This is the story of a rural area of Dang district which is situated at southwest part of Nepal. Actually this program at this location was not so planned. During my internship, I got a chance to explore this village named Ramana. Though this place is not so far from city area but this hilly area isnot so connected with regular transportation, twenty four hour electricity and people are still using community water source like tube well and community tank. Wifi is far from thinking and I have to walk a minute distance to get connection with mobile internet. In this village, I found people who have good income send their children to city for better education. So, literally government school in the village owns childrenn from poor people. After my visit on the school, I found there is no dustbins and toilet is also not in good condition. Immediately what I can do for the school? I thought that I can make some awareness program with the children. After some interaction with teacher staffs, I decided to take a class session and inspire the children to make school and their home clean and plastic free. It was a kind of fun moment to join this immediately planned event but a kind of dilemma what am I going to do with the students, haha. So, I made an immediate plan on my mind what to do with them. With the students, I made a discussion about theme(2020) of Tunza Eco Generation with simple examples so that they could understand. Then I teached them some simple ideas about how to make local dustbins like use of cotton sacs and immediately we made some cotton sac dustbin at the school.Personal hygiene, environment sanitation, Plastic pollution and how to inspire other for good cause; these was topic for discussion. Students also shared their knowledge about harmful effects of unhygienic food and water. At last we agreed that plastic pollution and unhygienic behaviour makes human and animal life in danger. Students awere agreed not to throw plastics and any kind of trashed anywhere and make local homemade dustbins at their home. I couldn't encourage them to join this online platform as there was not internet facility but I believe there are some who will work for environment sanitation and plastic pollution. This school needs some dustbins and good toilet for students, hope these will problem will be solved when I visit this village again. I believe that I got successful to inspire many of the students after this one hour program. We are never off duty and thanks to every ambassadors and members for your encouragement.

Hello Bal krishna
Awareness to environmental issues is probably the most important and fundamental way of solving the problem. Those students probably had not been aware of the issue about plastic wastes, and you gave them an opportunity to think about the environment. About the dustbins, I think it can be installed since any baskets or boxes can be used as dustbins.
Thank you for sharing your great experience!

Hey Bal!
It's Lisa your mentor.
It's so kind of you how you tried to keep everything at the level of these young children.
If you started to go talking about really complicated stuff about the environment, it's likely that they would've lost their interest from the beginning.
I think your idea of trying to keep everything simple worked well!
Great job and keep working:)
