Saving Water & Electricity – Workshop by DEWA In my school days, I remember attending a workshop organised by Dubai Electricity & Water Authority [DEWA]. Me & my Mom was the members of School Eco-Committee. In its endeavor towards greener living and in support of the UAE¡¯s strategy for green development to build an eco‐friendly economy in line with Dubai¡¯s vision, DPS Sharjah Eco‐ Committee team attended the Inter‐school DEWA Workshop on ¡°Saving Water & Electricity¡± held at Kinder Garten Starters, School‐Dubai. About 10 schools attended this workshop cum seminar which aimed to encourage the education sector to adopt best Practices in electricity and water conservation and raise awareness among students. The Team from DPS Sharjah was led by our Environment Coordinator and had the Parents Eco‐Committee members. Student Eco‐Committee Members and some Teachers. The workshop started with a short presentation by young students of grades 3‐5 on how they save energy and water. This was followed by an informative presentation by Mr. Ali Mohammad (Marketing & Communications department ‐DEWA Head office) on why and how to save energy and water. The workshop ended with interesting videoconferencing with a school in Karachi, Pakistan. Representing DPS Sharjah I was invited to reply to questions from Karachi and to ask them questions. Overall it was an informative, educative and interesting workshop. Some interesting points for saving energy and water which were shared were: 1. Use sensor taps and sensor lights. 2. Use less water for car wash. 3. Use water coming out of sink after dish washing or after washing clothes or after watering the plants. 4. Incandescent lamps are the worst and energy hoggers. They should NOT be used at all. Dubai has banned the use of these lamps from 2014 onwards. 5. Fix leaky faucets and pipes ‐ Statistics show that dripping tap consumes 256 litres of water every month. 6. Don¡¯t throw fats /oils/greasy stuff down the drain. 7. Install aerators and faucets in all the taps around your houses. 8. Install dual flush tanks. 9. Make use of table lamps rather than switching on the chandeliers. 10. Install LED lighting. |

Hey Rohan!
It's your mentor Lisa.
Your report reminds me of an old saying that 'Simple is the Best'. All these basic habits that we could adopt to save water and energy are very simple yet they are the best ways. All the individuals, anyone could easily participate in changing our future by adopting these simple steps. They are easy and they don't require any time or extra efforts that much.
Thank you for reminding these simplicities that are very critical in resolving the environmental problem of waste of energy and water.
Great report:)

Hello Rohan
You participated on such a meaningful workshop!
Saving water and electricity is not hard, but they are easy to be forgotten. And especially to the young children, they should learn about the reason and importance of saving water and electricity, and form the lifestyle in that aspect. And thank you for sharing through the report some good ways to save water and electricity.
Thank you for the great report!

Wow that's great,
The activity you are taking part in is an extraordinary activity, where it is true that schools should be able to instill the principle of environmental sustainability, hopefully the results you get with your mother can be shared through the media and in any way.
