Philippine Taal Volcano Disaster |

Recently, the Philippines has been affected by a dangerous volcanic eruption by Taal Volcano, a volcano that has been classified as being active. Living in the Philippines, I have experienced the damage of the Taal Volcano while being situated in the center of the country's capital. Large quantities of ash swept a large portion of the country, with numerous earthquakes being felt by citizens near the region of Taal. However, I was aware of the damage that a lot of displaced individuals felt and I wanted to help.
Following the event, on January 14, I participated as an Agos active volunteer, gathering online data and reports by displaced individuals. Once I have identified the location of the individual and their message, I proceeded to map the individuals on a global map of the Philippines. The Agos management team would then proceed to pass the information on the government, to request for help in those specific regions. Although the Taal Volcano disaster had not affected me personally to a great extent, I was determined to assist others who may be in need of assistance. Through sharing this experience with the Tunza eco-generation community, I wish to accentuate the idea that change can be made by youth. One should not consider their age as a hindrance towards volunteering and changing the world. |

Hello Jaewon
Your action is certainly a great action from an youth. From the report I can see that your volunteer action was a big help to the disaster sites. I wonder if there's any special reason behind the explosion of the volcano, or it was just a natural phenomenon. I hope there is no more casualty from the explosion, and thank you for sharing your great activity through this report.
