Marine life and its Conservation Being from landlocked country, I haven't seen any marine Ecosystem but I am happy because Conservation of Marine life will conserve the global environment. In this report, I will particularly address how Marine conservation will leads to the Conservation of Earth. 'Marine life' refers to organisms that live in salt water that includes a diverse group of plants, animals and microbes. Marine conservation helps to combat from global climate change which is one of the emerging environmental issues, concern to all nowadays. Importance: The marine or ocean and coasts provides the ecosystem resource like: Carbon storage, oxygen generation, food and income generation. Coastal ecosystems like mangroves and salt marshes play a vital role in carbon storage and sequestration. They sequester carbon more efficiently and faster than terrestrial ecosystem forest per unit area. An estimated 0.15-1.02 billion tons of CO2 will release in atmosphere every year if these ecosystem are degraded which accounts for up to 19% of global carbon emissions from deforestation. It is estimated that ocean vegetation, coral, and algae hold up to 93 % of carbon dioxide. Conservation International (CI) shows that the ocean holds a large quantity of the excess greenhouse gases that humans produce. As stated by marinebio.org, marine algae may yield as much as 90 percent of the Earth's oxygen. It also says that the majority of the oxygen that marine algae creates will become atmospheric oxygen, even though the ocean traps some of it. So, it indicates that the marine is important for maintain the living conditions which are vital for human life. But the problems: The extensive increase in global temperature has threatened the marine and coasts ecosystem and is being impacted by massive increase in CO2 content and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from human activities. CO2 emissions are making the ocean more acidic taking many marine species and vegetation towards the critical. Ocean acidification reduces the life span of many vital species. Solutions Forward: -Respective countries should develop their appropriate plan and policies for the sustainable use of marine resources. -Protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems -Proper monitoring of Marine ecosystem. -Outreach activities and scientific research. Hello Nishan
Thank you for the detailed information about the importance of marine environment and ways to protect it.
Just like you mentioned, marine environment takes huge part in balancing the atmospheric composition. I'm surprised by the percentage of the oxygen produced from the ocean. Acidification of the ocean is another serious problem, since it will cause unbalance in the marine eco system.
Some clear and direct solutions to preserve the marine environment should be taken as soon as possible.
Thank you for the great report.

Hello Nishan!
It's Lisa your mentor.
I can see that you have a sound understanding of the problems involving marine life and their causes. An increase in the amount of greenhouse gases is always the devil that we face in every environmental problem and yes, it is the one to blame for the problems underwater as well. That's why it is so critical for the states to continue decreasing the amount of greenhouse gases that they generate!
Nice job with your report and gree cheers for you!
