One major thing impacting our environment and humans in a negative way is the food waste. It causes an enormous drain to our resources. A few facts regarding food waste are as follows: 64% of food in the developing countries are wasted before it is sent to the market. 53% of wheat, rice and maize are wasted. Cutting down of trees leads to 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. 24% of water resources are lost to grow food that is getting wasted. Global food waste creates many carbon emissions. Exploitation of marine fish stocks due to over fishing. Lots of energy is lost due to food wastage. Foods that are wasted in households, restaurants sums up to 51%. Food wastage is a global environmental issue. We need to tackle the issue of food waste with top and utmost priority. We as global citizens need to understand the importance of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger. We need to rethink many times regarding the after effects of food wastage. Degradation happens on our oceans, seas, forests, soil and water. Calamities such as flood, drought and earthquake are adding up our miseries. Climate changes are occurring almost in all parts of the world. They are pressurizing the natural resources that we humans depend upon. All these reasons leads to food scarcity. Farmers are migrating to towns and cities in search of better opportunities. Food scarcity leads to severe malnutrition of children. Many people in the world are hungry and undernourished. We need to bring about a profound change of the global agricultural system to nourish millions of people all over the world. I am currently working on SDG 2 – Zero Hunger. I have innovated a robot called Agribot, which aims to assist farmers. • The purpose of AgriBot (Agriculture Robot) is to help the farmers in hot countries like UAE for agricultural purposes. • It is designed to minimize the labor of farmers in addition to increasing the speed and accuracy of the work. • It performs the elementary functions involved in farming i.e. ploughing the field, sowing of seeds and covering the seeds with soil. • The robot is autonomous and provides the facility for optional switching of the ploughing system when required. |

Hello Sainath
The problem about food waste is getting more and more serious. I think the ironic situation is that the more food human society produces, the more foods are being wasted. It's probably because people become less aware of the value of the foods and take it for granted because of its cheap price.
About the robot you invented, I myself is a mechanical engineering student, and I'm very impressed by your invention. You gave me lesson that little creativeness and technology can bring huge change in the fundamental level. I hope you continue with your innovative works.
Thank you for the great report.

Hello Sainath!
This is your mentor Lisa.
I do care for SDG 2, zero hunger as well!
In fact, I am planning for this big event for young persons in my country of Korea next February and the topic is on 'Sustainable Food'.
Two sub agendas involving the topic would be how we should aim for sustainability in our meal in terms of the environment and in terms of health. Involving the former, food waste definitely is an important topic for discussion. It has been pointed out for many years that globally, we have already reached the level of producing the amount of food that can feed entire humanity yet the distribution is not working that we still have many people starving to death while in the other parts of the world, we are spending time and money on disposal of leftover foods. It's such a contradiction!
I think you have pointed out a really important issue here and I really appreciate it.
I hope the other ambassadors think about this matter as well.
Nice job and keep up the good work dear:)
