Wind energy in Austria

Wind turbines in Austria.

The wind power sector in Austria is a leader in the manufacturing of system components. It demonstrates its strengths by producing control systems, rotor blade materials, generators, wind power plant design and steel for tubular towers of wind turbines, high tech materials and services. In recent years, the industry has been on a steep growth curve of between 22 and 25%.

World champion in supplying components.

Bachmann electronic in Austria is a company that produces control systems worldwide. These control systems can be found in every second wind turbine operating around the world. In fact, the wind power facilities of the Chinese market leader 'Sinovel' are based on concepts developed by the Austrian firm 'Amsc Windtec'. Furthrmore, Austria has even become an indispensable partner in manufacturing cranes for the construction of offshore wind power plants.

Innovations from Austria

First electricity self-sufficient region in Europe.

In 2009, the Burgenland Energy team had set an energy self-sufficiency target for 2050, accompanied by an action plan. However, by 2013 self-sufficiency in electricity through wind power was already achieved. The German company Enercon is also cooperating with the high-performance facility in Burgenland  to operate as a research station to ensure increase in the efficiency and productivity of wind power plants.

Wind park management.

'Windkraft Simonsfeld' is the largest service provider for technical operations management in Austria. The company holds responsibility for about 150 wind power plants in Austria and even Bulgaria. The company offers a number of useful methods to ensure performance and durability which include technical management, remote monitoring and operational data analysis, geometric rotor angle measurement (GRV), gear inspection and condition monitoring. Their motto is 'We create values, for humans and the environment'.

    Hello Aaditya

It seems that Austria is heading toward some desirable goal in renewable energy. I think not many countries are trying their best in renewable energy, and the early investments of Austria in renewable energy looks really good. Transition to renewable energy from fossil fuels is inevitable movement due to the limitations of fossil fuels. And the early possession of advanced technologies will certainly benefit Austria in the long term. I hope more and more countries jump into the race of renewable energy.

Thank you for the informative report.

    Keep up the great work.

    Hello Aaditya,
    this is Lisa, your mentor.

I didn't know that Austria was such a leading country regarding renewable energy! I am amazed especially by the title of the first electricity self-sufficient region! In my country of Korea, because we haven't been able to go deep into the development of renewable energy of all kinds and still figuring out which type is best suitable for our country, improvements have been yet made. I think Austria could be one of the models that Korea could take into considerations, not necessarily on the type of energy for Korea is not suitable for wind energy but rather the public policies and governance mechanism on adopting renewable energy in the daily lives of the people.

Thanks for the great report and keep up the good work:)
