The Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) has disclosed in its annual report for 2013 about the achievements in UAE on waste management, bio-diversity and climate change. Environmental Vision 2030 was developed with a goal towards protecting the environment and economic and social growth. The 2013 annual report reveals great strides towards achieving Environment Vision 2030.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, Chairman of EAD said at the release of the report that successful achievement of UAE's goals in environmental protection will reflect on our environment and our economy. This is expected to benefit our society by improving quality of life and taking us closer to sustainability goals. He further added that this will also create new job opportunities.

EAD's objectives which are based on priorities set by the Abu Dhabi Environment Vision 2030 comprise five priorities: minimizing the impact of climate change improving quality of air and reducing noise pollution conserving water resources preserving habitats, biodiversity and cultural heritage and creating value through better waste management.

Accomplishments listed in the annual report include the acquisition of 440 groundwater wells and 637 facility inspections ensuring compliance with permit conditions, which has been an issue in the past. The Economic 2030 objectives include exporting green knowledge services, investing in natural capital and promoting voluntary green standards. This is apart from the increasing efficiency in electricity and water consumption, greater fuel efficiency in vehicles and increasing use of renewable energy.
