Effect of Industrialization in the banks of River Buriganga in Bangladesh

by | 17-04-2012 14:52 recommendations 0

Since a thousand years the Buriganga river was a source of drinking water and travelling purpose. This river met everyone's needs but now it seized being an asset and it has become a burden itself. Due to factories being set in the banks of River Buriganga the water is so contaminated. People are throwing plastic bags out there and as plastics are non bio degradable the problem is the depth of the river is waning. So due to less depth in times of heavy rain and monsoon the regions next to the river are flooded. Due to the worst form of river pollution the diseases in the community is also increasing. As a matter of fact the hospitals are concentrated with dierehia fever. To make matters worse there is poor sanitation facilities near the banks and all the wastes flos into the river. As I mentioned the depth is retarded so the surge of water flow is very less and as a result of it the wastes are not getting over.So the people of those region are often being affected with diseases. So my organiztion Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative is also planning a project to solve this water problem in this part of the city. Of course I would enjoy and love to the comments of all E gen ambassadors and suggetions of how we can make this plan even more better. Hopefully this issue will be discussed  in any upcoming Water Summit. A summit may be held in Dhaka on Water and this issue will be highlighted. Therefore please don't hesitate to share any ideas or suggetions regarding this matter and thank you all.

I,too, agree with Christy and Rajashree. Lack of awareness is the main cause of such pollution.

Collective polution is the main problem of the river I think :-)
We can go out to clean up the banks of the river several time.
But more important thing is: to educate people to know the severity of the water polution.
