Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE script>AR-SAscript> In an effort to diversify resources, Dubai plans to feed more power into its main grid-which is currently heavily dependent on gas-powered turbines.
Over the course of 16 years, Dubai aims to depend on 12 per cent on nuclear energy, 12 per cent on clean coal and 5 per cent on solar power while aiming to reduce gas use to 71 per cent.
This is in addition to sourcing more than 20 megawatts (MW) of electricity from two solar power installations linked to the main network.
In an ambitious step forward, Dewa (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) is expected to produce local demand for rooftop solar panels for homes and businesses for domestic energy needs in addition to releasing a tender for the 100 MW-Phase II of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park ,a 1,000MW project that will power 200,000 homes by 2030.
On Sunday, Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa),said the draft of the laws are being finalized and, that once regulations come into effect, more people will shift to installing solar energy .
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has an abundance of sunshine making it an ideal source to harness energy from.
It will also:
1) Significantly reduce electricity costs for households
2) Meet the city?s power demand
3) Turn it further away from non-renewable energy sources
I am certainly hopeful that all the efforts taken by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) will fuel the city?s vibrant growth, in a more sustainable way .

solar power is really a great sources of power especially in tropical country that are sunny all around the year. however, sadly to say that it has not been really fully utilized in my country as the cost of the solar panel is very expensive :(

I think it's a good idea. Solar power is clean and pure energy that will create no pollution whatsoever. Not only the world would benefit from this, but also the children wouldn't stay up late because there's no sunlight at night :) I really looking forward to putting solar cell on my roof. I won't have to pay the electricity bill while saving nature at the same time :D

As I had mentioned already in Arushi Article, Dubai has been doing a great job in the field of sustainable development and sustainable energy. It is good to see that 20 MW of electricity is form solar and dependency on oil resources will be decreased in the days to come.
And how about Geo thermal energy? it would be a good idea.
Like Pratap I have inquiry about lean coal? IS it environment friendly? Please write about this.

It is really a commendable job by DEWA. However I am interested to know about present energy source of Dubai.
Reducing dependency on Gas is definitely a good step but I wonder if it will be a wise decision to depend upon nuclear energy after some big nations have withdrawn from those methodology.
Besides could you please elaborate about Clean Coal?
I wish for the successful achievement of the target and beyond by DEWA.
