Himalayas has not only been a natural gift to Nepal but also a major economy driver via tourism. It is a well known fact that Himalayas are melting so is vulnerability increasing upon people and economy dependent upon mountain. While this year small islands are getting attention they should get, Youth in Peoples March were raising their voice in saving Himalayas, are they asking for more? From my perspective they are just asking to ensure that their life continues!!
It is quiet obvious that since people are demanding for climate justice, environment concern has been a major thrust for the program. The demands were not for the well being of environment at present but to ensure the inter-generational equity for resource sharing.
Apart from everything one play card grabbed my attention, it was about sustainability of our heritage which has not been a major concern so far. It was written, " can our heritage survive the impact of Climate Change". A simple yet most impactful line for those who have not been much concerned of the social aspect and impact of climate change. A well raised issue by youth in the march.
Looking from all these perspective, Youth in Peoples March in Kathmandu were not just demanding for climate justice. They voice has been driven to ensure environmental, economic and social well being. Climate Change surely is the biggest threat hat humans have ever face and if we observe critically our entire civilization is at stake along with development that we achieved and economy that we have generated.
So if the cost of development is our civilization and the very development we made by ignoring natural balance, do we need such development. More importantly is climate justice more than about climate change? Is climate justice more about SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT?

Yes, Peoples march can be the successful step to adderss the serious threat of Climate change in the summit but to watch it, we have to wait till the summit. I couldn't participate in the march, feeling sorry for that because I was participating in the natio.wide event of Clean Up Nepal. Anyway its pleasant to see the mass of 800 youths participating in the march which shows most of the youths are concerned about it. Looking forward to the summit. Thanks pratap maharjan for the information.

Climate Change surely is the biggest threat that humans have ever face, Pratap. This is so true & this People's Climate March also has turned out to be a huge movement.
Let's hope & pray that something concrete comes out of this.
The pics are very descriptive & convey that it was hugely attended. It implies that awareness is there. Now we have to implement the Sustainable Development.
Govt. has to come forward with concrete plans & people must support it.
You are doing an excellent job Pratap, keep it up.

Thanks , Pratap , for your viewpoint. People's Climate March should be basically seen as advocacy for global action against Climate Change which also means advocacy for sustainable development . Looking forward to know about the Summit outcomes .
